Perfect for Our Porch Lights – Easy to Use and Reliable
This smart plug has been a game changer for our “party lights” on the screened-in porch. We can set timers, turn the lights on and off remotely, and never have to worry about resetting a traditional timer if the power goes out.Setup with Alexa was quick and easy, and it’s been working flawlessly ever since. The app is straightforward, the connection has been solid, and the weather-resistant design gives peace of mind outdoors.Overall, it’s reliable, convenient, and exactly what we needed. Highly recommended if you want simple smart control for your outdoor lights or other devices!

Great Products !
Reliable and intuitive—connects via 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi up to 300 ft, works with voice assistants, and handles up to 150 W of LED lighting. Ideal for creating mood lighting outside. Only one outlet, but dimming is rare for outdoor smart plugs

Easy setup. Great app. Working well.
Purchased almost a year ago and works perfectly with my outdoor Feit LED stringlights. Great Kasa app with excellent scheduling options. Smooth dimming from 0% to 100%. Full Alexa support with voice commands for on, off and dimming to any level desired. I have many Kasa smartplugs. None have failed and all work flawlessly. Highly recommend!

Kasa Good
Product: Kasa / TP-Link Outdoor Smart Plug, single outlet, model KP401Gist: overall I like it and would get it again although I’d actually get the one with 2 plugs insteadGood: Kasa Smart app works good, the Kasa/TP-Link products are good quality and good function with the Kasa App or the Alexa App and Echo devices, actual setup of the plug was very simple and easy – just select it in the Kasa app and then go into Alexa and it already has it ready to go without even doing anything. Not so good: you have to have the Kasa Smart App on your phone, you need a username and password, the unit is not waterproof – it is weather proof – that means no direct water contact I’m pretty sure. It is designed to be plugged into the outlet and for the unit to hang down by the cord about 7 inches with the actual socket facing the bottom. That way rain will not enter, just run off the sides. Just keep that in mind when determining if this style plug will fit into your scenario.Details: My first smart plug was a Kasa/TP-Link product that I purchased off Amazon in 2017 and in 2024 it is still operating perfectly with Alexa/Echo so I expect this item will also last a few years.Since I already had a Kasa account setup in 2017 all I had to do was login and add this new device. Well, I haven’t accessed that account since 2017 and haven’t had the Kasa app on my phones since then either. I’ve just been using the Echo devices to control my Kasa devices ever since initial setup years ago. So here is the process for me to setup this device:First: Like most smart devices you need the 2.4 GHZ band of your internet router to be active along with the 5 GHZ all the time.1. download the Kasa Smart App onto my phone (I ditched Apple so I use the Android version now)2. open the Kasa App – it will want a login before anything else can be done. If you have an existing account and don’t know your username or password then just click recover option and it will send a link to your email it has on file. Use the link to reset the password. I actually had my password written down but I think since its been years since I logged in it was disabled and that’s why I had to do the reset.3. After you login to the app, just click the plus sign for add device and scroll through the types to select your Outdoor Plug and then the KP401.4. Assign a group or routine in the Kasa App if you want5. Once you’re done with the Kasa app if you go into the Alexa app it should be already setup and ready to use.I didn’t give it 5 stars because everything can always be better and I think the amount of cord this hangs by should be shorter. For some reason they didn’t think so. It works well but looks a little clunky in my patio scenario.

Works just as well as products that cost more
Tired of having to adjust timers based on sun up/sun down, daylight savings time, or sensors that just don’t seem to work all that well? It is time to give up the old way of connecting outdoor lights and using something better, and this is that something.Sure there are other brands out there that cost considerably more, but they don’t do anything more than this does. And while you can find “timers” that cost less, they do far less and are far less reliable. The pairing process is braindead simple and doesn’t require a separate hub. From there it is one simple step to add it to Alexa or Google Home. You can then do things like set them to go on at “sunset” and just forget about it, no need to adjust for DST or changing daylight hours. Of course, if you do want to override it for some reason, you can simply tell Alexa (or Google) to just turn it on. Or if you don’t happen to have your phone on you, or aren’t near your assistant, there is a button to tap to turn it on.The casing is solid and well made, durable and feels substantial, and has survived through summer and winter weather and continued to work without issue. Stop messing with inferior product, and certainly don’t overpay when you don’t need to do so, this Kasa version is everything you need. I have both the single outlet and double outlet (which gives each outlet a separate id so they can be turned on or off individually if you so choose), and both are superior products and well worth the price asked for them.

Unreliable after time
Great while it lasted.Of 4 Kasa Smartplugs we own, only two lasted more than a year. Two devices just stopped working and would never reconnect. Tried everything and updates the firmware and no luck. The other two mini smartplugs are holding on.I like the interface and ease of use, but caution on longevity.
