The back portion excluding the handles is 22″ long but end to end is 46.” The inside handle is for when you do not need more length and the outside handle is for when you do need more length because the person is wider. The non-slip side goes toward the patient.I tried this on my boyfriend and it was impossible to use because he is of medium build. I could barely get this around his waist. This is not as wide as I would like and is really only good for super skinny people. This does not come with any instructions, which is a negative. It helps lift a patient so that they can help themselves further to stand up and make a transfer to a bed or just to walk. Some patients cannot lift themselves out of a sitting position and this assists the caregiver with that task. It can be used to lift legs, arms, etc.This small size can also be used for pets. If a large dog or even a cat has a problem walking and they need to be moved outside to go to the bathroom, then put this under them and lift a little. I tried this with my cat and it worked well.I honestly would not recommend this for anyone but a super small person or child or a dog and cat. I do love that it comes with a nylon carry pouch for storage.

Works Great For Medium Sized Dogs and Slender Humans!
I received the Transfer Slings Medical Lifting Sling Transferring Sliding Mobility Assistance Devices Nursing Gait Belt Patient Lift Slide Transfer Belt (Blue).I got this to help my older, medium sized dog get around and go up and down steps. Now that he is in the elderly age range he has some arthritis in his hips. This really works well for me to use with him and he seems to appreciate the help.This Transfer Sling is a simple and very easy to use design. It seems to be well made and is sturdy.It comes in a nice nylon bag with a draw string too.It has some padding and is not too wide that it gets in the way of a medium sized Australian Cattle Dog’s boy-parts.I keep this Sling right by the sliding glass door for helping the dog out to the deck and then down 4 stairs to go potty. I think I’ll buy a few more of these too. One to keep in our van and another for the front door.As far as using for humans, I tried it on my husband and it works great for a smaller, slender 136 lb, 5 foot 10 inch guy like him. For a heavier, or larger person, I’d probably get a more padded Sling.I am very happy with this Transfer Sling for dog, and skinny guy, use.
