Do you find it hard to communicate? …You could have NVLD!

Non-Verbal Learning Disorder (NLD or NVLD) is a learning disability characterised by poor visual, spatial, and organizational skills. As well as incredible difficulty processing nonverbal cues. The name “Non-Verbal Learning Disorder” suggests that those affected have trouble speaking. However, this is not the case with NVLDers usually having above-average intelligence and firm mastery of complex vocabulary and language.

But the vast majority of human communication is non-verbal — body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice. Those with NVLD have trouble interpreting this non-verbal language and must rely on words alone to understand what others mean, which can lead to difficulties.

Linda Karanzalis shares her own experience as a child, teen, and adult battling undiagnosed NVLD. This book is a frank account of her struggles with academics, jobs, and relationships that sheds light on and will ring true for everyone affected by NVLD. This inspirational book will guide you on recognizing and coping with NVLD and how it differs from its common misdiagnosed disability; Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and or Autism Level One (formerly Aspergers).

Linda not only empowers others to achieve their goals but also serves as a role model offering understanding, hope, and inspiration to NVLDers of all ages.

Grab Misnamed, Misdiagnosed, Misunderstood today and equip yourself with this new knowledge and apply your understanding to your life to achieve the potential you were always meant to.

Book review for Misnamed misdiagnosed misunderstood
I can’t say enough positive things about this book; like Linda, I too had undiagnosed nonverbal learning disorder. If you are a relative of someone that has this, you will cry reading this book this book. Everything that she put in this book except for her view on religion, which was the only thing that I disagreed with because I believe that Jesus Christ has all the answers and there is no use in doing anything else, but with that being said all in all, I love the author, Linda, she tells it like it is has great advice regarding vitamins and nutrients and oils and things like that, but she really pinpoints all the frustrations that we struggle with, and she puts herself out there to show how she was victimized and vulnerable and set up like everybody that has this illness is even though it does manifest itself in different ways I was told that I was a text bookcase of NVLD. I did not have parents that understood this like Linda did. I had other health problems too not the same as hers, but I had endometriosis so I could connect with her even though we had different extenuating illnesses not stemming from NVLDI. It was just like another thing to deal with! Linda is very accomplished which gives a huge boost to any parent who got the news that their kid has NVLD there are so many bright people that have it. I did read Sue Thompson‘s book which was very matter of fact, I think Linda’s book shows a lot of compassion. It’s just the things that she did for her students, that had it she would give the money to get a snack or something she didn’t have to do that. I mean she’s a very caring person. I’m forever grateful to her, and keep her book next to my Bible

A Compassionate Guide for Educators and Mental Health Professionals
In her groundbreaking book, Misnamed, Misdiagnosed, Misunderstood: Recognizing and Coping with NVLD – Linda provides an invaluable resource for educators and mental health professionals navigating the complex landscape of invisible disabilities, in particular Nonverbal Learning Disorder (NVLD). This compelling work sheds light on the often-overlooked world of neurodiversity, offering a fresh perspective that is essential for those in the fields of education and mental health.Linda’s exploration of NVLD is particularly timely as many professionals in these fields may be unfamiliar with the intricacies of invisible disabilities, such as NVLD. She adeptly addresses the challenges faced by individuals with NVLD—those with neurodevelopmental conditions—whose wiring differs from their neurotypical counterparts. By delving into the nuances of NVLD, Linda offers a compassionate and insightful guide to understanding the unique experiences of NVLD individuals. One of the book’s strengths lies in its emphasis on the societal expectation for NVLD individuals to conform to neurotypical standards. Linda eloquently articulates how this pressure can lead to struggles in various aspects of life, contributing to additional conditions such as depression and anxiety. By highlighting these challenges, the author effectively advocates for a paradigm shift in how society perceives and accommodates NVLD.A central theme in the book is the frequent conflicts that arise between NVLD individuals and their neurotypical counterparts. Linda skillfully navigates these complex interactions, providing practical insights and strategies for educators and mental health professionals to foster understanding and collaboration between these two groups. The book serves as a bridge, fostering empathy and promoting an inclusive environment that celebrates neurodiversity.Misnamed, Misdiagnosed, Misunderstood: Recognizing and Coping with NVLD is a must-read for educators and mental health professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge and cultivate a more inclusive and supportive environment. Linda’s compelling narrative and compassionate approach make this book an invaluable resource that has the potential to transform perspectives and practices in the fields of education and mental health.

    Extremely interesting and informative
After reading this book, I found many similarities to experiences I encountered with my children as they were growing up. (Mostly 1 out of my 3). I wish I had known about NVLD during those times because I feel I would have understood certain behaviors better and would have used the book as a guide on how to handle certain situations as they arose. I think this book could be very valuable to parents who are trying to figure out how to help their loved ones who may be struggling with this disorder. I feel bad that I did not recognize certain behaviors and settled for the behavior being labeled as ODD and ADHD, instead of NVLD which is where professionals mis diagnosed my son who was very argumentative and oppositional and got into so much trouble all the time. They told me to be stricter and follow through with punishments for bad behavior. The guilt I feel is sad because to think back, I sent him away to boarding school out of frustration instead of working on his struggles. He begged me to allow him to be homeschooled but I didn’t listen because I was not a stay at home mother thinking I could do homeschooling with him. I had no idea of the fears he was really facing or understanding his fears until reading this book. This book really hit the nail on the head for me and I plan on buying more copies to give as gifts to people I know who are struggling with behavior issues with their kids and I plan on giving a copy to the son who was misunderstood and misdiagnosed to let him know how sorry I am to not have had more patience when he was struggling with behaviors that I don’t think he even understood he was displaying. Excellent content and I found it very easy and fast reading – right to the point. Thank you to the Author Linda Karanzalis for opening my eyes to the past that did not make sense to me and helping me now wanting to mend a bridge by using this book to open a line of communication to strengthen the relationship with my son.

Altamente recomendable.

Thanks to this book, I was able to find the right words to explain and express my needs, my difference and my experience with NVLD. It helped me find peace, acceptance and hope as a late diagnosed individual and most importantly, understanding the gifts that come with it and how to use them to my advantage. This book not only offers great examples, but it is filled with tools and resources that can make a world of difference to people with NVLD and their loved ones. Thank you for everything, Linda.
