This book provides essential information about the variety of seizure disorders and serves as a basic epilepsy reference guide for students and practicing clinical neuropsychologists. In addition to epilepsy neuropsychological assessment issues, the book provides an overview of the known cognitive effects of seizures as well as the adaptive, emotional, and psychiatric consequences of epilepsy including a chapter on psychogenic nonepileptic seizures. Diagnostic tests, such as EEG and structural neuroimaging, are described and the leading treatment options are detailed with a chapter on pharmacologic therapies which reviews the known cognitive and behaivoral side effects of specific antiepileptic drugs. Many of the more rare epilepsy disorders have been included in the appendices for quick and easy reference.
The book also details the role of neuropsychology within the epilepsy surgery process including pre-and post-surgery cognitive evaluations, cortical stimulation mapping, functional neuroimaging, and intracarotid amobarbital (Wada) procedures and reviews the major surgical treatment options used in the intractable epilepsies. Case examples are dispersed throughout the text with neuropsychological results as heuristic aids. The book concludes with a glossary of epilepsy terms.

Great detailes
If people like me, who have dealt with Neurology and neurological disorders for over 30 years want specific information, THIS IS THE BOOK. At least in my case it was. I am a patient, not a doctor, but still, I drink up all the information related to my case as I can. This book I purchased shortly before a few surgical operations. I read the book, not in it’s entirety, but the relevant chapters for my case in the book. It expanded on what I thought was going to happen, as well as educated me on an unexpected procedure that was inserted in my treatment. This is a very technical book. It is not intended for the average person to read and understand. However, if you are educated somewhat in neurology/medical, or can understand the articles, it will reveal additional information that you may be seeking.

Highly recommended for fellow neuro colleagues working with epilepsy referrals
I have to say, this book has made its way to my “regular use” shelf in my office. Having a prior background in neuroanatomy/neurochemistry is important, and I daresay, essential to understanding the implications gained through this book. It gives important, CONCISE information about various seizure types, auras, etc, and risk factors for different conditions that contribute to epilepsy. Highly recommended for fellow neuro colleagues working with epilepsy referrals.

Great information for a parent with a kid with epilepsy!
I learned a lot about the various types of epilepsy and diagnoses. The glossary helped a ton. I trust the references to the diverse studies. My daughter has epilepsy and this helped me reconsider some of my thoughts about her treatment.

Five Stars
I love the layout of the book and how easy it is to read.

Limited value
Has no information on neurofeedback, which is a well-evidenced treatment. This reflects the outdated view of psychology vx medicine and the limited value of the book’s conceptual framework.

Ordered a new book but received a second hand one. Very disappointed with the seller, I can not return as it was bought to give as a gift to a close relative who lives abroad.
