Great Resource for adults with autism or who are questioning if they have autism
This book has a great mix of accounts from adults with autism from a variety of demographics. I really enjoyed reading these experiences, which I found very relatable and I think could really help people who are considering whether or not to look further into whether they have autism. I especially appreciated how many points of view came from women with autism, especially since it is so often missed. There is also a lot of good information about autism and some resources that are helpful in there. I think it does a great job of explaining the day-to-day difficulties one might face. In terms of the resources, I really loved the mention of the wheel of emotions. As someone with alexithymia (common with autism) it is an extremely helpful resource to help identify how you’re feeling. The other resources are also really good as well!My only slight criticism about the content is that some of the topics are a bit more nuanced than what the book goes into, but for a comprehensive overview, I think this book does a great job.

    Good book!
This book answers questions adults with newly diagnosed autism may have and is full of information about autism that can help them understand their disorder. The book contains a lot of exercises and information on how to live an adult life with autism.

    Some good info
This book has some good info for adults newly diagnosed with autism, however, at times the author seems to be talking as if to a child. The author also cites Autism Speaks as a good resource which I find concerning.

    Amazing book
This book is a manual on how to live with Autism. It’s for anyone with Autism or anyone who suspects to have an Autism or anyone who has a family member with Autism, or anyone who would like to educate yourself on this very important topic. Real people stories, great resources, tons and tons of information on everything Autism related. I have learned a lot of useful information that I will be using in my life and that I already shared with my family members, for example on how to stimulate your vagus nerve to help relieve depression, anxiety or stress. It’s very informative and easy to read. I would recommend it to absolutely ALL people to read, because we all seem to lack knowledge in this area. I’m saying it based on questions and statements made to me about my autistic children. I am learning a little bit more every day, and I am grateful for this book.

    Amazing information!
This was one of the most informative books I’ve ever read regarding the process of understanding an autism diagnosis. I was recently diagnosed and this book made me feel less alone and gave me a sense of understanding of how to integrate my new knowledge. Highly recommended for anyone who is undergoing the process of integrating an autism diagnosis into their life with ease and care.

    Harmful
Alexander himself is not autistic. While I was willing to let this go in hopes that the book may have some helpful information, he goes on to describe how ABA is a helpful treatment method, when in actuality it’s an incredibly controversial treatment method that has been described as abusive and traumatic by actual autistic people. Stopped reading immediately.

Whilst this book appears to be aimed at the autistic adult, particularly one newly identified, it has a very narrow view of what autism is and how to support autistic individuals. At times it reads as a guide for neurotypicals trying to understand “these adults” and although the author may be very well-meaning, it is is not neuroaffirmative. It’s clear that the author is neurotypical and the advice given appears to me to be advice on how an autistic person can blend in more and be more neurotypical themselves. There are better books out there that are written by autistic authors that can provide a greater understanding and advice. One star only because Amazon wouldn’t let me give it none.
