Are we doing enough to bring our children with special needs the spiritual, physical, and emotional safety they deserve?

Deann Hampton explores this question in this deeply personal and reflective account of her own family’s experiences raising twins with autism spectrum disorder and a number of traumatic health complications.

In Cruel Diagnosis, Deann recounts her experiences navigating the complexities of our current healthcare, educational and social systems. The book explores the disparities within these systems and Deann’s personal journey toward understanding autism spectrum disorder (ASD), chronic illness, and the dynamics of narcissistic/empathic relationships.
The excerpts highlight Deann’s goal of improving access to information, products, and services for families who are health affected by comorbidities to autism/neurodiversity and unresolved trauma. Endorsements from notable figures such as Jack Canfield further emphasize the book’s significance.
The foreword is beautifully penned by Marcella Piper-Terry, MS, and there is mention of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Dr. Judy Mikovits, Tim Goyetche, Zoran D. Raketka, Dr. Joel Wallach, Dr. Bruce Lipton, Dr. Peter Breggan, and there are 250 references that fortify this “based on true events” story.

Looking for answers…and a relevant discovery
This book is about one mother’s seemingly never ending search for answers. Answers that she knew were out there somewhere. It shows what a loving and caring mother is willing to go through because of her love for her kids; mountains of red tape and wrong answers from doctors and ‘experts’, and through it all, having unending determination to get the right answers for what was causing both physical and wrongly diagnosed mental issues of her kids. This book is not necessarily an easy read. Reading a story about one mother’s anguish of never ending struggles, the pain of watching her children suffer mentally and physically without knowing ‘why’, and the years of disfunction it was causing in her family’s life and well being, is not what you might call pleasant or entertaining reading. There were times when I felt like closing the book and walking away from all this darkness for a while, but it made me think, and wonder, if she ever wished she could do that in real life. Just walk away from it all and everything be ok.But, she didn’t. The love for her kids and family pushed her to keep going. Just one more step forward, searching. And eventually, she found answers. The whole book is not all doom and gloom. There are several humorous stories along the way that help break the tension and darkness. She also tells how her discovery of reliance on a higher power, specifically God, and the faith that came with that reliance, changed her total view of life, and gave her supernatural strength to continue. Each chapter begins with a bible verse that she used as inspiration.A lot of medical research and thorough study by the author went into the writing of this book. The amount of references listed in the back of the book is impressive. The story of this mother’s journey and the encouragement she offers might be just what someone is needing at this time in their life. And you should thank God every day if you didn’t have to go through this kind of journey with your family.

“A Powerful Testament to Resilience, Advocacy, and Hope!
A journey into the depths of motherhood, trauma healing, and rooting for the underdog to have a voice! Cruel Diagnosis is a deeply moving and necessary book for anyone navigating the complexities of autism, chronic illness, and the unseen struggles within our healthcare and social systems. Deann Hampton’s raw, unfiltered account of motherhood, advocacy, and resilience sheds light on the painful realities many families face—being dismissed, gaslit, and forced to fight relentlessly for answers. This book is more than just a memoir; it’s a guide, a voice for the unheard, and a testament to the power of love, faith, and unwavering determination. Deann’s insights on the dynamics between empaths and narcissists are especially eye-opening, offering a perspective that extends beyond medical diagnoses into the emotional and spiritual battles many endure. If you’ve ever felt unseen in your journey or struggled to find answers for yourself or a loved one, Cruel Diagnosis will offer not just validation but a roadmap toward hope, healing, and empowerment. A must-read!

Deeply Personal Account Of A Mother’s Journey To Find Answers
I had the opportunity to read this book before it was published and was impressed with the authors ability to articulate such difficult and deeply personal life experiences so beautifully and I loved how she used scripture with each chapter. This is a story about a mother trying to navigate the complex healthcare system, educational system and even social systems while raising twins with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This is a book that can help educate anyone on the very real problems parents run into when trying to raise children with health problems and few answers. Her ability to lean on The LORD is beautiful and I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the truth about our healthcare system and the innocent victims of cruel diagnoses. Thank you Deann Hampton for sharing your story. You are brave and many people will be blessed by your truth.

If you or a loved one are newly diagnosed ASD or suspect you may be — this book is for you.
**I purchased this book from amazon at full price. My review is my honest opinion, I am not being compensated.**When you’re different medically in ways they don’t understand, different in how you think, feel, process emotions — you’re made to feel less than, broken and gas lit. This book will give you validation, understanding and information laying out a path to help yourself and your family without needing a medical dictionary. The author points out how/why systems are made for NTs, not for NDs, with judgements made based on Neurotypicals sensing something is different. As this book highlights, people are afraid of different. This isn’t a new concept but I didn’t realize how much this applied to ASD and how it applied to me.If you or a loved one are newly diagnosed ASD or suspect you may be, you owe it to yourself /them to better understand.

A great resource for autism or post traumatic stress disorder
This book is a must read! I never realized that autism or post traumatic stress could be reversed. The author, Deann Hampton, has the heart to want to help others by giving her personal story of what she and her family went through. Her story will be a tremendous help. Will be validating for families in similar situations. I highly recommend!

CRUEL DIAGNOSIS is packed with little-known, valuable information learned by a mom in the trenches, and is uniquely great just for that reason alone, but the thing that HEALED MY SOUL is that this book is A TRUE STORY ABOUT A REAL FAMILY coping with serious health conditions, autism, and special needs.
This woman’s story could be my story. It could be your story. It’s a story told by a loving parent who has gone through the same things every parent goes through when their child struggles with unusual challenges in life.
If you have experienced the sorrow of helplessly watching your precious child suffer, you’ll see yourself in this book.
If you have experienced the fear, confusion, guilt, marital strain, loneliness, and exhaustion of trying to figure out the answers and be a good parent to your special needs child, you’ll see yourself in this book.
If you have been frustrated, overwhelmed and blindsided by the (sometimes deadly) incompetence, unfairness, and callousness of health professionals, schools and systems that are supposed to help your child, you’ll see yourself in this book. If you are a dedicated professional who wants to give amazing help to your clients and students, this book will be a gift to you. It takes you right inside a family with special needs children.
Every dedicated, enlightened professional will be grateful for this book and the uniquely in-depth, real-life knowledge it gives them about what their clients go through and truly, desperately need from them.  For any professional who went into their career with the desire to help special needs children and families, this book will help them fulfill their soul’s purpose.
Another thing about the book that healed my soul is seeing the love and joy sprinkled throughout the author’s life with her husband and children. Because yes, even in the darkest times, we have love. And joy. The sweetness and sometimes breathtaking insights of our children are a joy like no other.
One of my favorite things about the book is the way the last chapter is so uplifting. To see a person go through so much and yet be able to approach life in such a beautiful and positive way… well… it’s a kind of miracle. But the author explains HOW she is able to do this. So maybe we can ALL be a kind of miracle.
