Didn’t Expect Much, but Hoped for the Best
Update 09/25/20: I just spoke to Accu-Chek customer service and the 1/2 settings actually add to the depth levels and this is how the device achieves 11 options for depth. It’s starts with a 1/2 and goes all the way to 5 1/2; hence 11 depth options for lancing. I am happy to learn that I DID receive exactly what I ordered and that I erred in overlooking the half settings that were on the device when considering the levels. Instead of just deleting these updates and leaving my original review in tact, I’ve chosen to leave the updates, since it may help someone else that might find themselves in need of clarification regarding the depth levels as well. Again… GREAT DEVICE! I hope this helps. Stay Safe Everyone.Update: 09/25/20: I just realized that the picture for this Accu-Chek device is not the same as what I received. This is important to note as it is contrary to what was advertised. I received a box with yellow on it, not blue. A reviewer by the name “Jerimiac” posted a picture of the box that I have so I don’t need to upload a pic of mine. The description for this item says, “11 customizable depth settings of lancing device make it easier to get the right amount of blood the first time.” Mine does not have 11 settings. It only has 5 settings. However, it is consistently giving blood, a significant amount, on each draw without effort & without pain!!!! I also do not have it on the highest setting. Although, I did not receive the device that was advertised, I am VERY happy with the one that I received. I will be reaching out to the company regarding this though, as this is something that definitely warrants addressing. I hope this helpsShipping: Excellent. I have prime (which has not been relevant lately, as things have been delivered late & at varying times). However, with this product it came much earlier than promised. I’ve used it 6 or 7 times since delivery… Fasting as well as 1 & 2 hr PP (Postprandial) checks, all of which have consistently drawn blood on both hands. NOTE: I “never” squeeze the fingers to bring blood after it has been pricked since doing so can alter the integrity of the reading. My shared experience is about actual blood drawn ON ITS OWN. So I began to search the internet for something better reading lots of reviews and finally decided this was my best shot.More on my Experience: From opening and after cleaning it with alcohol, etc., you know, hygiene… I commenced to try it. WOW!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH ACCU-CHEK! Although there has been no color change to indicate a true loss of blood in my fingers and hands, I also had no blood after sometimes 20+ punctures and I was getting concerned that I was literally losing significant circulation in my fingers. However with one “painless” prick with this device and I had enough blood for 3 or 4 strips! My circulation is fine. It was the device. This product has changed my sugar monitoring experience, not to mention it has given me back the 15 to 30 minutes of my day that I was losing trying to get a single drop of blood with the other lancing device and lancets. Superior to the Ascensia (Contour) Microlet Next in my opinion
Based on another review, I purchased both the Ascensia Contour Next One complete kit containing Microlet-Next lancing device, plus the Roche Accu-check softclix lancing device, separately. The Contour Next One meter is compact, accurate, easy to read, and requires little blood, but for poking I prefer the Accu-chek softclix. The body is narrower than the Microlet, with flat-based lancets (rather than round base of the Microlet), which make the lance needle protector easier to remove once it is in the “poker”. (With the Microlet, you have to pre-twist the top before installing, otherwise it might simply turn in the “poker”.) Over the many weeks I have used the Accu-chek, I got a good drop of blood with the “3” setting for a single poke. With the Microlet-next, which I used for a week, I could not find an ideal setting for all areas of my fingers. One day I wasted 4 test strips, and poked myself multiple times at various depths, trying to get enough blood. I also like that the Accu-chek device is primed with an inward “ball-point-pen” click instead of pulling the plunger out for the Microlet. IThe Microlet’s action is that it pricks and then retracts. The Microlet pricks and stays extended, which may explain why it is more painful. The Accu-chek has half settings, with are useful to get the depth just right, with minimal pain. The few things I liked better about the design of the Microlet-next is that you twist the cap to an indicated mark to remove it, rather than yanking it off as in the Accu-Check (I’m thinking the cap retention lip might erode over time). Also the Microlet slide ejector action was smoother, whereas I tend to launch the lancets when I remove them from the Accu-chek.

Glucose monitor
I’ve been getting headaches more often and think they’re attributed to low blood sugar. I decided to get a glucose monitors to see if I was right and so far it has proven me right! I decided to track my levels before and after I eat or drink something other than water. I connected it to the app and am keeping a log to show my doctor.The monitor itself is smaller than I thought which I appreciate. It also turns on automatically when you insert a blood testing strip without you having to hit the power button on the side. The digital display is nice and big for easy viewing.This kit comes with a travel bag which fits everything in the picture with ease. I wish there was a case for the lancets but I’ll just get one myself.I love the pen design of the lancing device. I started on level 2 but switched to 1 without issue. Pricks you enough for a good drop of blood and small enough to heal fast. Not painful and just feels like a prick.As for accuracy, I plan to eventually get a different brand to test with against each other. For now, this is all I need since I’m not using it for diabetes (hopefully won’t need to) so accuracy isn’t life threatening.
