Highly recommend
Very happy with this purchase! We’ve been using it for a few months with my 81-yr-old father with early dementia. It has prevented missed doses and him making medication changes on his own. He does not try to break into it (as mentioned in other reviews) so we’re very lucky and this dispenser has been a game changer. It’s a little complicated to program, my dad would have no way of doing it on his own, and it required us taking out the manual for the first few refills until we got the hang of it. So, if you are purchasing this for a family member that lives in another state, you will need to have someone local that can refill it.The volume is plenty loud and I like that it repeats for 30 minutes until the medication dose is removed. The phone app works well and is great for documenting that doses are taken. We’ve also used it when my dad needed a medication released early due to going to lunch or a dr’s appt. It’s great for travel since it locks to prevent spilling and isn’t too large to fit in a backpack / carry-on. Just know that you may have a little trouble during flights with the alarm times because it adjusts to the phone app’s wifi (we learned this recently on a trip) but you can certainly work around this if you’re aware ahead of time.If it wasn’t so expensive, this would be a great purchase for anyone that’s taking medications at multiple times throughout the day since we all forget!

Great product, some little flaws
I purchased for a family member that has dementia and lives alone. We are trying to help prolong them being in their home. They take medicine 2x a day and wanted to make sure they were actually taking. Sometimes even with a phone call it wasn’t happening. The initial set up wasn’t bad. I did have to factory reset 2 times. One: something happened in set up and the tray was resetting every time it “dispensed”. Then I had tried to set up at my home and then take over. But I couldn’t just switch the network when I got there and the customer service said I had to reset. Well at this point setting it up was old hat anyway. Both timed I had to talk to customer service they answered right away and were pleasant and easy to understand. After reading some reviews I added some notes to the top with paper and scotch tape. 1. An instruction to tip the pills out when the alarm goes to make it stop. 2. Slide with an arrow pointing in the direction to slide open the compartment when the alarm went off. 3. A note that says pills with an arrow pointing up over the “open”Pros:-Notifications from the machine every time medicine is taken (or not taken)-Notifications for low battery-Pretty easy set up-Auditory and visual indicators to take meds-Doesn’t stop until it is taken or the time limit on the alarm-Can allow meds to be taken early via app-Customer service-Locks to prevent being opened and tampered withCons:-The plug is just a USB cord. It would be better if it was affixed in the back. It can be knocked loose in 3 places where it connects to the machine, where the USB connects to the plug and where the plug goes into the wall. This has become an issue.-The app doesn’t notify you it has been unplugged. If you open the app you can see if it is, but no notification until the battery is already low.-Battery is a backup. Not sure how long it runs for, but I don’t think it’s days.-Afore mentioned inability to change the network in app.-Sometimes the app isn’t very intuitiveOverall this is a great product. It has really helped with medication adherence and peace of mind. Worth the price tag and no monthly fee.

A good, versatile and reliable device
We bought this for our father as he was starting to need lots of pills. When he did not take his pills on time his dementia would fool him into thinking he needed to take his pills over and over, causing overdosing. This device was easy for us to understand and easy for him to understand. The key was understanding that you can turn over the device to get out the pills with no negative consequences. His wife hated it because of the alarm (it would startle her) so she demanded that we stop using the device. We tried making the device more suitable for her but it proved to be a real deal breaker. His health suffered as a result and we lost him. We still feel that he would be around if he was allowed to use it, although there is no way of knowing.Very good and durable device that is really worth every penny of its cost. We only wish we would have gotten it earlier so his wife could have gotten more used to it when she was more coherent.Highly recommended for senior living as they approach end of life.

Lock latch is breakable
I purchased this device to ensure my mother was only getting one dose of her nighttime meds. Her dementia had caused her to forget taking meds and then take additional doses. The unit was strange to her but worked effectively with repeated explanations and notes to explain. However, one night when she was convinced she needed to get at the pills inside, she pried the lid open with a butter knife by breaking the plastic latch hook.Love the specialized key, but whole lock mechanism should be metal. I’d also recommend that the back up battery be secured with the same key. Too easy to remove battery if the unit is unplugged.Level of users memory loss and curiosity may make this unit a poor choice.

Improved Functionality
This is a significant improvement over the older model. The app makes it very easy to set up, change times, set alarms and dosage times. The only drawback is that it does need to stay plugged in. There is a battery backup that should last for 4 hours, but it is not designed to stay unplugged. One note of caution if traveling with it, take the battery out. These devices to not do well if turned upside down or being bounced around while they are rotating to dispense meds.

Unfortunately my Mum has alzheimers and obssesses over taking her pills. She has to be monitored as she will try and take her pills multiple times in a day. She soon realised she could put her finger in the carousel and spin it round to access more pills. Sadly the machine doesn’t notify you when this happens.Might be good for someone who only needs a reminder to take their pills. Not for those who will try and tamper with the box.

Well made.Excellent instructions.Love the app.And best of all, my elderly parent can’t overdose on medication, as has happened before. No doses have been missed since the first day we implemented the new smart automatic medication dispenser. This product has given our family peace of mind.

I bought this for my father who has trouble waiting for his pill time. The dispenser locks and keeps the patient from accessing pills earlier or for future days.It does exactly what I hoped for and the app is even more full-featured than I had expected. So far the app seems quite stable and reliable and I have had no trouble with the device dropping off Wifi or anything like that. It would be nice if the app could send notifications to the phone; as far as I can tell it only keeps notifications in the message center, it doesn’t alert you. I would also like to see an alert for when the dispenser becomes unplugged. This is critical if you are using the app for monitoring remotely. Unless you look for it, you might not notice the icon that indicates the dispenser is running off battery AND a message is only sent to the message center (again, no actual phone notification) when the battery drops below 10%!! I only noticed this the first time it happened because I was on the phone with my father by chance, and I heard the voice alert on the dispenser warning of a low battery. Finally, although I’m quite satisfied with the product, I took off 1 star because the charger cord is loose in the AC adapter. I bought 2 units and they are both like that; if you wiggle the cord a little at the adapter, you can see the device switch to battery power and back again. I ended up taping the cord to the adapter for strain relief, but this shouldn’t be necessary. I’m not sure if it’s the fault of the cord or the adapter, but this is something to check and watch out for.

This is a great product that is easy to load and program. I love the app that allows me to confirm medication was taken and the ability to force the next dose if required for times away from home. As a caregiver of a parent, this has been so helpful. Nothing negative to report yet as only been using for 2 weeks.
