Great for basics, not for large-format work
Good for labeling cards or short notes. Holds paper firmly and the stylus feels fine to grip. It’s compact and light—easy to carry around. The only downside is it only fits smaller paper (about 7 inches wide), so you’re limited if you want to do anything bigger. For the price, it’s a nice tool to have around.

Hot Green color is pretty cool!
I teach Braille and I liked this slate and stylus for the cool color. They are mostly made of metal, but this plastic one works great too. It is best used for small amounts of Braille, like a small note or number. You can clamp it down on cardstock pretty well and it stays in place. The stylus is standard and worked well. If the paper is not secure it will punch through. The hot green color is cool though which is usually not the case with blind tools, so my younger students appreciate that their sighted piers see them using a hot green tool and not some old metal clamp thing. For people that don’t know, you do need to Braille backwards with a slate and stylus.

    neat
The stencil makes it a.lot easier to hand punch braille signs if you want to do crafts, but the punch is very small and this is not suitable for large productions.

    Handy tool for creating braille
This braille slate from Cirbic comes with a stylus. Both are lightweight and portable. The slate has nine lines and 30 sections. Each section has six areas for creating braille letters (and numbers).Under the cover, there are six “dots” that hold the cover to the base, so that paper doesn’t shift around while it’s being used. I’ve also found it helpful to use the dots on the right to set up my paper evenly. Then if I need to put the paper back in, I know where it’s supposed to go.So far, I have been using the slate with index cards and it works perfectly. I like the idea of using the slate on playing cards, too. The stylus is easy to hold and is blunt enough to press the index cards without punching holes through them.

Works great, but works best with non-standard sized paper
Sturdy braille writer with small cells for compact writing. This kit works very well overall. The only problem is that the interior of the writer has 4 raised bumps to hold the cover in place, and this means that a piece of paper must be smaller than that space to fit within the writer, or 7″ wide. The writer will do pretty well to hold paper in place, but having a more standard width would be more ideal for frequent use and to prevent slipping or misalignment during use.

    Portable, Sturdy, Easy to Use
This Braille slate comes with a bulb-shaped stylus, designed for comfortable use and easy handling. Both the slate and stylus are lightweight and portable, making them convenient to carry. The slate features nine lines and thirty sections, with each section comprising six areas for creating Braille letters and numbers.Additionally, the slate is equipped with gripper dots that hold your paper securely in place, preventing it from shifting while you work. These dots also serve as markers for aligning your paper if you need to add more to your project. The stylus is effective on standard paper as well as thicker sheets.

    kind of small
I got this to learn how to write braille. It works okay, but I wish it would fit a larger piece of paper.

A decent slate and stylus for smaller tasks, especially things like playing or index cards …
This is a decent enough slate and stylus that should hold up for lighter tasks. My preference is for an all steel one, but at this point in time I don’t need it. This is a solid enough plastic with some flex to it. Care will need to be taken not to snap the hinges on this particular one as it’s plastic. With a smaller slate and stylus, I can braille playing cards, index cards, or pages in lightweight books. I’ll probably simply keep the set in the bubble envelope it came in to keep it safe. This is a good set, especially for someone who just wants to dabble with Braille or teach it in a classroom. The price is right at just under $18.
