Dammit! -Darn thing worked!!
At an impulse buy, I believed these were Arduino add-ons, instead, they turned out to be programmable self-contained WIFI mCUs (ESP8266). Had to rethink my project and went deep into the web for something to make use of it. I was able to make a WIFI extender wirelessly connected to the primary service router. After a few trials and errors, I now have a functioning WIFI extender that I can place out in the backyard gazebo with a boost on the range of connectivity from my primary router for a few clams- daggonit! – it just “f”-ing worked! Me-Happy! 🙂

Handy little devices.
That chipset requires quite a hefty little hunt in the beginning, but after you get the ch340 drivers installed it’s time to go. So far, I’ve only flashed one with any code, using WLED and it worked perfectly. The indicator LED is a little obnoxious, but somehow I managed to short it or jump it off accidentally? IDK, I prefer it, a little blink at power on and a blink if anything gets connected to a pin is totally fine with me.

They just work
Occasional bent pins die to poor packaging (minus 1 star) , but very low failure rate on these! Very happy with them.

Best value for money, but additional steps needed
So far I’ve programed one of these with two LEDs with pwm and it works. Like others have mentioned, you will need to download and install the ch340 drivers. Check the sparkfun website for a tutorial on how to do this.I will update if any issues arise. Please ask questions and I will try to answer.

All of them are duds
I use ESP8266 for all my work. Switched these out and all of them are duds when used with WLED. Prefer a different seller as I can’t return these now.

Legit
While these have climbed in price steadily over the last two years, they’re still a good value for what they provide and I haven’t had any issues so far.
