L. Cheramie –
A necessary reference for teachers and educators in the classrooms of today.
A Practical Guide to Mental Health and Learning Disorders for Every Educator is a reference book for school professionals looking for practical information and guidance for various mental health conditions of students in classrooms. The author, Myles Cooley, PH.D. is a well-respected clinical psychologist who has helped many children during his long tenure. The synchronicity of this book presenting itself to me is uncanny. It comes at a time that I’m consciously reading books on how to become a better steward of appropriate student behavior in my practice. This book is comprehensive in its scope (i.e. descriptions of specific conditions, disorders, approaches that can be used immediately in various settings and specific resources). As an occupational therapist practicing in schools as well as privately, I’m not qualified to diagnose mental health conditions. But, this book allows me to “know it when I see it” and offers precise, timely information that I’m readily able to use personally. Further, it offers comprehensive classroom strategies and reproducible forms that assist teachers who are often floundering under the weight of meeting the needs of diverse students who are entering today’s classrooms. I am grateful for this resource guide.L Cheramie, occupational therapist

Excellent Practical Advice
Dr. Cooley has completed a terrific work for teachers who want to recognize, understand and assist students with various common learning disabilities and resultant behaviors. As a former teacher and administrator of special education programs, I can relate to the frustration that teachers face everyday as they try to meet these challenges. Dr. Cooley’s work provides practical advice and techniques, not a bunch of theoretical ideas and soundbites. I am confident teachers will find them very helpful. This book should be distributed to teachers at every level.

This is a guide written for those of us who work with people with special needs.
This book is exquisitely written so that anyone can understand the variety of disorders that are encounteredwhen working with special populations. I especially enjoyed the clear descriptions and examples for each disorder as well as treatment suggestions. I also found the resource suggestions in the back very helpful! A well written guide which can be used repeatedly to assist educators across a range of age groups! Kudos to Dr. Cooley!D.W. Speech Pathologist

Great resource!
This is a great resource for teachers. It gives a great explanation of learning issues. It discusses symptoms and behaviors that teachers may observe in their classrooms. There are suggested strategies and interventions to try with a variety of students. There are also ideas to motivate struggling learners. A list of resources are also included. This is a must have for every school!

Great Resource!
This is a great reference guide with easy reading explanations of the different mental health illnesses educators face dealing with their students. Practical accommodation recommendations are helpful to general education educators as well as the IEP team.

Accessibility
I am unsure of the content, as I have not gotten into it because of an accessibility issue. The Kindle format doesn’t support TTS or sticky notes.
