About the Author
Bonita Anderson’s career in Echocardiography spans more than 40 years and includes both clinical and academic roles. Bonita has mostly worked in Brisbane, Australia as a cardiac sonographer and educator at The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH) and as a senior lecturer at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). She is currently a Clinical Fellow with the Faculty of Health, School of Clinical Sciences, at QUT and an Advanced Cardiac Scientist (Locum) at TPCH.
An Accredited Medical Sonographer, Bonita holds a Diploma in Medical Ultrasonography (Cardiac) and a Master of Applied Science (Medical Ultrasound). In 2015, Bonita was one of the first cardiac sonographers to earn the Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) credential issued by Cardiovascular Credentialing International. She has also been awarded a Fellowship of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE) and a Fellowship of the Australasian Sonographers Association (FASA).
Bonita has been actively involved in many professional societies and councils throughout her career. She served on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) as the inaugural International Representative (2017-2019). She has also served in positions on the ASE Membership Committee, Council of the Australasian Sonographers Accreditation Registry (ASAR), Cardiac Sonographers Working Group for the Australasian Sonographers Association (ASA), Board of Examiners for the Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (ASUM) and the Imaging Council for the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ).
Bonita has been honoured as the recipient of two lifetime achievement awards: the Pru Pratten Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award from the Australasian Sonographers Association (2010) and the Sonographer Lifetime Achievement Award from the ASE (2024). She has also received the ASE Meritorious Service Award (2020).
As a popular national and international lecturer in echocardiography, Bonita is often complimented on her ability to explain complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner. This makes her especially popular among students of echocardiography.
