A revolutionary, personalized guide to preventing heart disease based on genetic factors

Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in America. It affects 81 million Americans and is the culprit in one of every two deaths in the United States. Most people think that they are not at risk of a heart attack if they control their cholesterol and blood pressure, but they aren’t aware of other major risk factors. The good news is that with the right information and strategies, heart attacks are preventable—even if heart disease runs in the family.

In Beat the Heart Attack Gene, world-renowned cardiovascular specialists Bradley Bale, MD and Amy Doneen, ARNP, present a new model for understanding and preventing heart disease. They explain the three different genetic types of cholesterol profiles and tailor treatments for each type, using their cutting-edge Bale/Doneen Method, a simple, comprehensive prevention plan that detects cardiovascular disease (CVD) at early stages. Beat the Heart Attack Gene includes easy quizzes and self-tests that show how to determine cholesterol genotype as well as advice for how to apply that knowledge through nutritional and lifestyle changes. For heart attack and stroke survivors, the Bale/Doneen Method also helps prevent recurrences by identifying and treating what’s triggering the patient’s disease—a crucial step that many cardiologists neglect.

With their proven method utilized by healthcare professionals worldwide, Bale and Doneen empower readers by alerting them to potential health threats, and then offer personalized, evidence-based strategies so they can live healthy, active lives without fear of heart attack or stroke. Specifically, Beat the Heart Attack Gene addresses:

*The hidden cause of most heart attacks
*Early prevention methods
*The dangerous cholesterol most doctors don’t check
*Major red flags for heart attack and stroke risk, including gum disease
*The gene that increases cardiovascular risk as much as smoking
*The best and worst supplements for your heart
*10 surprising ways to prevent heart attacks

    Excellent, CURRENT information
Excellent book for people with any level of concern about their cardiac / arterial health or their risk of arterial disease, including heart attacks or strokes. First third convinces you why you should read and trust the rest of the book. Second third is about the tests and studies that you should get and use. The third third includes information about diet, exercise, supplements and other related stuff.PROS:–Information is very current and supported by science and studies.–Information is hard to find elsewhere, especially in one place.–Authors are critical of current medical “standards of care”, but are also supportive of the other doctors who want to learn or do a better job for their patients, and clearly want to coordinate with people’s current doctors–Focus is on PREVENTION, not just response to symptoms.–Written clearly, without a lot of medical jargon, so it’s not hard to understand.CONS:–Lots of self-promotion, especially in the first third of the book. The first third is convincing you why you should read the book, which seems like a lot more than necessary to me.

    Life-altering information….
This book illustrates what all people need to know about preventing heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes. Sadly, our current healthcare system is geared toward treating the after-effects of these devastating conditions which is not only costly, but deadly. As a family physician, I see that not only does our standard medical system fail in early detection and prevention of these conditions, but that human nature is such that patients don’t think about these issues until they are personally affected, which is often too late. This book isn’t just about eating better and exercising. It’s about simple tests and interventions that virtually anyone in America has access to. The catch is that you have to empower yourself with knowledge, and that starts with buying this book, which was carefully constructed by Dr. Bale and Amy Doneen to tell you what you need to know. It will be the best money you have ever spent. Having seen many patients over the years, I can assure you that following the Bale/Doneen method (outlined in this book) will give you the greatest chance to live a long, rich and vibrant life regardless of your past or your genetic makeup. I have employed these principals in my own medical practice for 3 years now, and the results speak for themselves! The number one killer in America is now non-existent in my practice! Don’t make the mistake of waiting for something bad to happen. It’s up to you to take control of your health now!-Atul Sachdev, M.D.

Fear a Heart Attack or a Stroke? Then read this book.
The authors focus upon informing patients of many ways to prevent vascular disease and its effects. The goal is for patients to partner with health care providers and use the best possible data to create a unique strategy to prevent or in some cases reverse the disease process. The authors cite multiple studies to substantiate the reasons for why a particular strategy should be adopted. They point out that strategies which work for some patients may be exactly wrong for other patients. There is an attempt to improve upon the results of following generally accepted guidelines which are broad based for large populations. Readers will understand they must dig deeper to better understanding that we each have a unique genetic make up and what that means for our vascular health. Understanding our genetics leads us to better tools so we can move from general guidelines to a specific individual plan of attack. At times the book is repetitive, but the goal of moving patients beyond standard care and into care tailored for each individual patient is met.

    Good health advice.
This is a really a good resource if interested in good heart and cardiovascular health. Reading can be a little technical and difficult but overall understandable to the average layman. The greatest problem is application and follow through.

    Preventing the arterial ‘fire’.
I have been using the Bale/Doneen protocol in my own practice for some years and have had extremely few cardiac events occur. On the contrary I have seen marked plaque regression and improvement in the arterial health of many of my patients. This book is easy to follow and shows patients that there is more to cardiac care and disease prevention than just lowering cholesterol, having stents and bypasses, and waiting for the next event to occur. Patients will feel empowered and in control instead of living in fear.By partnering with their physicians, patients can be actively involved in their own care and improve their outcomes. The ultimate complement that I can pay Dr Bale is that I have been fortunate to be able to engage him as my personal physician. The Bale/Doneen method of cardiovascular disease prevention should be part of every medical school curriculum. The standard of care aims to fix the house after it has burnt down, Bale/Doneen prevent the fire from ever starting.Cyril Wolf MD.Houston TX.

Reading this whilst I listen to the audiobook whilst the cardiologist is suggesting an angiogram. Not sure about the angiogram but this book does what it’s supposed to do- informs you of what you need to know should you have heart disease. I recommend this very highly.
