Customers say

Customers find the futon mattress comfortable, reporting no back pain, and appreciate its quality and value for money. They sleep better on it, and one customer mentions it’s easy to roll up and put away. The firmness and thickness receive mixed feedback – while some find it firm enough for a good night’s sleep, others say it’s not very firm, and while some describe it as thick, others find it very thin. The mattress has no smell according to some customers.

I started sleeping on the floor, these are good and affordable.
I actually use a queen size, which I fold in half, and a full sized mattress. At 6’5″ and 280, plus being on the cusp of old age, I need just a bit more padding than a young one, or thin one, might. Still, these work great, I use this brand for both sizes. I have been using them for… several… five?… years now? Air them out, from time to time, winter or any season… just don’t let them get wet or it’s a monster to get them dried.I keep several sets, if I haven’t broken out the new sets, yet. I really like these. The only problem I have had, is that I didn’t realize they had this in different covering materials… colors and prints. I would have chosen something else. Still, no big problem. I use flat sheets on top, so don’t usually notice. But it is a butt ugly color when I’m changing sheets. My bad. I didn’t look around. I think the other sets are different, though maybe I learned even after ordering those. Still, just a minor complaint, and wholly my fault. And, who knows, maybe prison slate will come into fashion… in a thousand years. :p

    Surprising more comfortable than expected
I wanted something temporary as a bed since I was only moving to a new city for only a year on my clinical practice rotation. If you are someone that needs a thicker material to sleep on, this may not be for you. But I am thoroughly surprised by the level of comfort for how thin it is (~2.5-3 inches thick). Buy a basic, fitted amazon bedsheet for like $10-14 and comforter and you’re good to go. For reference I’m 5’7″ and 170 Ibs. If you’re 5’9′ or taller, I may not recommend it since your feet might stretch off the mat depending on the position you sleep.

    Does what it’s designed for
I bought this for my apartment in place of a bed because I knew I wouldn’t be staying in the city for very long. I slept comfortably on the futon for over a year (fyi, I’m about 5’4″ and 110 lbs). I was used to sleeping on a regular mattress, so for the first week or so I woke up with some aches and pains; however, once my body adjusted, I have slept just fine. Two minor issues to take note of: it’s thin and I have it set on a carpeted floor, so sometimes it gets hot in the middle of the night especially during the summer. Also, if you don’t take the time to beat it/fluff it up every few weeks, it can get a little saggy/lumpy in the middle. But overall, I got exactly what I paid for: a well-made, thin futon that won’t blow your mind but is comfortable enough if you’re low maintenance and just looking for a place to rest your head. When I move, I’m going to keep it for guests who come to visit in the new place, but after a year I’m ready to go back to an actual bed.

    Just like the last one
Previously bought one of these and was happy with it, so I thought I would get another. It’s exactly like the last one I bought. Comfortable, easy to fold, not heavy at all so it’s easy to move, and I don’t wake up with back pain! It’s very affordable too. If you lay this on the floor like a real futon, then you really need to fold it every time you get up for the day, otherwise it will get unpleasantly packed in a few days and stop being comfortable. If it gets like that, there’s an easy fix though; just fold it! I highly recommend this futon for people with back pain, or people who weigh <130lbs (innerspring and memory foam mattresses just don't provide enough support for low-weight people, as weird as that is to say). I'm not sure how supportive a heavier person would find this though.

Don’t be too proud to sleep on the floor!
I use to sleep on a 12” memory foam mattress- it killed my back and hips. I purchased one of these futons after my mom helped me do some research on the best kind of mattress to sleep on. This is by far the best I’ve ever slept on in my life. MY BACK AND HIPS FEEL SO MUCH BETTER EVERY MORNING NOW. I was expecting the type of futon you get on one of those generic couch/beds, but it’s not, it’s not lumpy at all and it’s easy to flip and air out as needed. I bought one for my son as well. I’m a bit heavier than he is so I use a 1/2” foam on the floor underneath the futon to ease my fatty spots. My son does not and he is very comfortable.

Comfortable at first, but flattens out very quickly
I’m a bit heavier but still average-sized (5’10” at around 160 lbs) but after sleeping on this with a carpet, rug, and exercise mat underneath, it flattens out from three inches to about a half inch-inch thick after a night of sleep, and it doesn’t matter how well I fluff it out the previous day, or the next. It’s just not very firm at all. I got a more authentic Japanese-made shikibuton at around the same thickness that, by the nature of more dense cotton filling and thicker construction, is much more sturdy and not much more expensive that holds up much better. For the time being I have it propped up against the wall as a sort of sofa-replacement, but even after an hour or two one feels the floor underneath very quickly. If this is being used for sleeping accommodations I recommend you research more authentic Japanese shikibutons. This can work fine as a layer if you have more padding, but even then I find it just sinks in too much.

    Awesome for minimalistic life
FYI First timers sleeping on the floor let your body adjusts for couple of days. Many people says it is uncomfortable because they didn’t let your body adjust to the changes. Smh rookies needs to do research before review Japanese style mattress the same day. My body has adjusted and it is perfect. I go to in deep sleep ASAP. I wake up without any sore and etc. I am sometimes a side sleeper and it is fine now. I weigh 180lbs so this 3in mattress is great for now. I would recommend for a minimalistic life style.
