BEST DIABETES HAND BOOK ON THE MARKET
I am a Internist and Cardiologist. Almost half of my patients have Diabetes. I spent some time this weekend going through the book mainly to decide if I should recommend this for my patients. It was refreshing and very informative. I also learned from the book since my formal training was many years ago. Author has done a remarkable job and a “service” to all patients who will read this book. I think every one including all Primary Care Physicians should read this book because the information is delivered in very easy to understand format is educational and up-to date. There are so many positive features of the book but I am mentioning some points which really struck me:(1) The chapter on “What does it all mean?”,is very well written and easy to grasp.(2) Myth and Fact section are great.(3) Dawn phenomenon and Hypoglycemic episodes including reactive and nocturnal is very well explained.(3) Chapter 7 and 8 are VERY informative and very well written.(4) Insulin tables and information is very good and complete and easy to understand. Insulin pump information is great.(5) Section on Artificial sweeteners is very good.(6) Complementary and Alternative Medicine section on page 263 is very informative and of practical importance to everyone. This is a “must have” for all patients with Diabetes.

Excellent source of reference for the newly diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes
I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and wanted a book with thorough information from a reputable source. This book was written by top staff at Johns Hopkins University, I would think they know of what they speak. And they do! This is so informative and so helpful, I’m getting more information from this book than from my short appointments with my diabetes clinician that teaches me about my new diabetes lifestyle. Combined with the two I’m learning so much. I highly recommend this for anyone that’s is newly diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, it’s an excellent source of reference to keep at hand.

I love this text on Diabetes!
I’ve had the diagnosis of Diabetes for 15 years and probably 10 years before diagnosis. Lately, I had experienced a kind of depression about the whole thing and needed to be instructed again and found this text from John Hopkins, and reading it cover to cover has been so helpful! I am back on track and realizing the importance of good management of blood glucose. When I have a symptom of a problem I can look it up and find the answers so easily. I am so grateful for this textbook!

Not for the novice
This book is very densely packed with information, charts, and diagrams. It covers so much, that it can be overwhelming to the novice. Rather than read it cover to cover, it’s best to dip in a bit at a time. Remember that many types of diabetes are covered here, and you may only have one. The easiest thing to do is skim. At the end of each section, lightly highlighted in blue, is a simple summary or takeaway of what you need to know. Start with that section. You may not need to look at every drawing and graph.

Excellent Resource
This book is a wonderful resource that I bought for a family member who was recently diagnosed with Diabetes. There is so much great information, with explanations that are spelled out in a way that is easy to grasp for someone who has more questions than their doctor might have time to answer. It’s laid out in a way that makes it easy to look up and reference terms that a nurse or physician might think people already understand. I’m going to tell my primary care doctor to buy one for her waiting room!

A must have reference!!
Diabetes Head to Toe by Drs. Kalyani, Corriere, Donner and Quartuccio is an excellent reference for patients and doctors alike. Written in plain, easy to understand language, this book is the perfect tool for patients and their families to educate themselves on diabetes. The blue ‘What it all means’” boxes summarize clearly what the patient needs to ‘take away’ from the section. Charts and diagrams are concise and to the point. This is a fabulous resource for patients and family members of diabetics

I really loved this book. It laid out a lot of information in a very clear and logical way. It explains pretty much all you need to know about diabetes. I love the depth of information that is given but written in a way I can understand. I highly recommend this book. I am picking up a couple more to give as gifts.

Book very complex, more suitable for professional providers. If you have this, they say see your provider you might be prescribed a whole list of tablets. See a dietician about diet. Eat low carbohydrate high protein and some fat. They talk about all the other complaints you might get, high blood pressure, cancer etc.. Then go into detail about those complaints. I suggest if you are an ordinary person get a book that talks about diabetes only because we know we have to go to medics for testing and prescriptions.
