Eve Door & Window (Matter) 3 Pack
I have many of these sensors that I’ve purchased over the past few years. I keep buying them because they function as expected. Their response time in logging is good. ease of install? Matter makes installing and adding these devices to Apple Home super easy. As far as durability, I dropped a sensor and now the toggle for reset is no longer aligned with the tiny hole in back. Overall, I’m happy with all my Eve Home products.

Reliable & fast contact sensor trigger w/thread
I’ve got HomePod Minis and Eve Energy devices so I’m using the Eve Door & Window with thread. They come with plenty of spacers to adjust the non-battery powered passive part of the contact sensor. So depending on your door or whatever, most people should find a way to make these work. The battery cover is hard to install and feels like you’re forcing it on — so I’m concerned that battery replacement might be frustrating. So try to be sure there’s a way to remove the active sensor from the battery door, which is done by sliding away the sensor body. Those are the only negative things I can say about these devices.Importantly, the both my Window and Door contact sensors already had the new Thread firmware (purchased in July 2021). So I did not need to upgrade their firmware. At first when I added an Eve contact sensor, it didn’t trigger automations reliably. So I rebooted all my Eve Energy and HomePod devices. Since then they’ve been working flawlessly, every time, and near instantly. I have one contact sensor that turns on the hallway lights when the closet doors are opened, and turns them off when closed. I have another sensor on a slider that we only open up to let fresh air in. So I set up an automation to put our Ecobee into away mode to keep the AC or heat from turning on when we have the windows open. They’ve been extremely fast, triggering within a second of opening or closing. By using the Eve app I can see that so far these contact sensor Thread end-points are relaying their activity to an Eve Energy thread router that is about 30-40 feet away with several walls. That’s impressive range and I’m surprised they’re not routing through closer HomePod Minis or NanoLeaf Essentials bulbs. I plan on buying more of these devices soon as I can think of more practical, life improving things to do with them 🙂

Setup took longer than expected, in the end works as advertised
Tried to setup on Thread via new Apple TV 4K, unable to setup via iPhone 12 Pro for about few hours. In the end had to use latest iPad mini to scan the QR code and add to HomeKit. So I wonder if it was Apple software bug.Post setup everything works as expected. Just wished more features were available on HomeKit. Such as integration with other apps on eve notifications similar to ifttt.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS ITEM
Good while it works but then it start disconnecting from homekit and you add back and then in a few days same thing until eventually dies. Very hard to get a warranty replacement stay away from this. Bough like 5 and they already not working less than 5 years.

Very reliable, chunky, hard to remove battery
I’ve never experienced any hiccups or disconnections from my thread network using this contact sensor. Reliability is more than good. I think what needs to be understood is the placement of the border router/mains thread router devices.. With that being said, sticking the sensor on certain door frames is tricky because of its chunkiness. It’s chunky! The included spacers are helpful but…….wow…..they make the aesthetics very very very unpleasant if you have to use the spacers. However, I forget about it how ugly it is and am happy with the reliability and battery life. Lastly, replacing the batteries is insanely difficult, and this could break or make a purchase in my opinion…..

Easy setup, easy to use
As with all the Eve products I’ve bought, it works well, reliably, and was easy as heck to setup. I needed a way to see the kids shut the door to an outside building they use a few times a week (and kept leaving the door open or not all the way closed). This makes it easy. I may buy a few more in the future for doors we don’t normally use on the actual house. It’s a large house in the country.

Ok sensors. Not the best for 90 degree angles
sensor contact is very finicky. setup to homekit and eve app was easy enough but again there’s a good delay on notifications. We found 90 degree angles (e.g.: sliding patio door) to be a pain. but we’ve found a 3d printed housing to work. oh if you’re using homekit it’s not gonna show up as an accessory device (ideal) but instead under security > sensor, meaning it’s not obvious when something is tripped. you’ll only be notified if something is wrong. meaning you can’t just quick check if the window is open bc it won’t tell you status. there’s several clicks to get to info but hey that’s not Eve’s fault, that’s on apple. You can see status at anytime on the Eve app.

Download the Eve app and update the firmware for Thread support
This door sensor does not come with Thread support out of the box; without it and the Eve bluetooth extender, it is near useless as it had 5-10 seconds delay when the contact opened/closed, and the battery pretty much drained itself in 2 months. But once it updated to have Thread support, it performs instantaneously, and the battery is still going strong after 3 months (96%). A lot of people never downloaded the Eve app to update the firmware, so do that first, and you won’t be disappointed.

I’m wondering about what happens when the battery runs out. 3M backing tape sticks them to the surface. The battery is behind where the 3M tape is. So you would have to somehow rip the sensor off the wall or wherever it’s attached to change out the battery. The battery is also not a common or standard type battery. Other than that it’s works as intended.
