Yes, as written the buckle fastner is difficult to open. However, I see this as an asset. When my 260 lb husband was laying on the driveway, 3 people pulled him up to his feet using the gate belt. The belt held his weight and the buckle did not open. I highly recommend this belt. He wears it all day long while he is relearning to walk after major spinal reconstruction. The multiple handles on the belt are a life saver, as I can find a position that I can assist him to stand from a seated position with out hurting myself. The fastner does get easier to open with use but is still very secure.

Easy to use
Ordered this for my mother in law so she could use for her sister that had a stroke. This has helped her to be able to keep her sister from falling while she is doing therapy exercises.

Buying two, one for the patient and one for the caregiver, can be helpful.
There are lots of gait belts to choose from. I bought these because they have handles on all sides. I actually bought a pair. I wore one and my mother wore the other so we could grab onto each other as she was getting up and down. The only downside was that they had a tendency to slide up, so not the most comfortable when they did, but they worked. Easy on and off and good quality.

Safety first
My Dad fell one day and I couldn’t help him,. My Mother couldn’t grab him to help him up,.. so just in case. Now she has something to put around him, in case he falls again.
