If your child has a language-based learning difficulty—such as dyscalculia, dyslexia, and auditory processing disorder—they may have to work twice as hard to keep up with their peers in school. Your child may also have feelings of frustration, anger, sadness, or shame as a result of their learning differences. As a parent, it hurts to see your child struggle. But the good news is that there are proven-effective strategies you can learn to help your child be their best. This book will show you how.
Helping Your Child with Language-Based Learning Disabilities outlines an attachment-based approach to help your child succeed based in the latest research. This research indicates that a secure attachment relationship between you and your child actually optimizes their learning ability by enhancing motivation, regulating anxiety, and triggering neuroplasticity. In this book, you’ll discover why it’s so important to accurately assess your child, find new perspectives on LBLDs based on the most current studies, and discover tips and strategies for navigating school, home life, and your child’s future. Most importantly, you’ll learn how your own special bond with your child can help spark their interest in reading, writing, and math.
Every child is unique—and every child learns in his or her own way. With this groundbreaking guide, you’ll be able to help your child thrive, in school and life.

Groundbreaking, All-Inspiring, Transforming!
I picked up this book to gain a bird’s eye view inside the world of education and to learn how language based disabilities are being dealt with. I walked away forever changed. I took so many notes for myself and others that I ended up buying the Kindle version as well so I could easily highlight entire sections. This is not only a masterful tool to be used to break down any barriers there may be in learning (whether that challenge be to a degree or with great severity), but an entire masterful tool chest full of scholarly knowledge presented in a friendly user format, along with analysis, support, step- by- step techniques, tips, concepts, strategies, relatable stories and downloads. My favorite line from the book is the statement from Dr. Franklin that “‘Positive collaboration is the most effective way to improve academic performance and heal a broken spirit”. What a brilliant and beautiful piece of work this is! Kindness to our children and empathy to what they are going through is a central theme in this book, along with working side- by- side with educators. I learned that being there for our children now whenever they need our help, with patience and focus, will lead to their independence later on. I wish this book could be put into the hands of all educators, school administrators, and parents alike. If this were to happen, I believe there would be a great, successful transformation in the lives of all children who are challenged with language based disabilities and the world would be a better place because of it. To me, this book is the key to the missing link in education. Needless to say, I love this treasure of a book and am so emotionally touched by it. I have become empowered by its knowledge. I will carry this knowledge and insightful advice with me because I know it will bring about huge positive results whenever dealing with children who struggle or are challenged in this area. Success to the Children!

Great Guide for Parents and Professionals
I am a Special Education Resource Specialist and want to best support my students. Many of my students with learning differences have Dyslexia, ADHD, or processing disorders so when I was recommended this book I had to look into it. I decided to purchase this book not only to help me better support my students but also so I can better support their parents. This book is definitely one that I will be recommending to parents. My students’ learning differences are so often a language based challenge. This book is helpful to understand the connection and how it affects learning, completing homework, and just getting through life itself. The book breaks down the areas which parents often struggle with. From ways to work with your child’s teacher to ways to help them with homework. It also breaks down different ways a child is affected based on their learning differences and their needs. The book has a positive approach that is nurturing to help support your child who may already be developing some self esteem problems because of academic failure. It provides ways to support your child to succeed in school and in life. There is even a section based on older students in 11th and 12th grade.I highly recommend this book to parents but also feel this is a great guide to help support teachers and other adults who work with a child with a learning difference. Each child is unique and finding ways to help the child be successful and function in everyday life will make a difference in the abilities the child has when they grow up. Thank you Dr. Franklin for writing this much needed guide to suggest strategies we can use with our children and students.

Excellent book for parents, educators, and professionals!
This book supports parents and educators with students with all kinds of learning profiles- complex and typical students! It’s an easy read and gives many useful ideas and practical strategies to support students. Daniel’s compassion for parents and learners is evident. He teaches the reader how to approach the student in a peaceful, loving, nurturing way to keep a child’s emotions calm in a time that tends to be pretty fear-provoking for a struggling student. Daniel teaches action-oriented strategies to cultivate skills and shows parents and educators how to make the learning fun and engaging. I reference this book frequently to help various students!

A definitive guide to supporting students with learning challenges
I run an executive functioning coaching business in the Bay Area and I have found Dr. Franklin’s book to be an extremely helpful guide to working effectively with my clients. Dr. Franklin’s content, writing style, and expertise fuse together to create a solid handbook on how to support students with dyslexia, dysgraphia and general executive function challenges. This book is great for a individual tutor, educational therapist, small business owner, or parent who wants to more effectively support students who struggle with school. Dr. Franklin is an ally to the special needs community and a thought leader.

This is a fantastic book for parents who are trying to help their kids with learning disabilities or ADD/ADHD not only get through school, but also create a kind and helpful atmosphere around the homework table. I am sure teachers will also find some helpful ideas in there.Trying to help my kid who struggles in school used to turn into huge fights, tears and tantrums (for everyone involved :)). The book has helped me tremendously in understanding the issues that a learning disability can create, therefore being able to assist my struggling daughter in a better way. The focus of the book is on strengthening the parent-child relationship, facing the storms of everyday school life as a team, and encouragement. It also empowers the parent to make confident decisions with regards to expectations and workloads directed towards our kids and modify them if we can see that our kids cannot meet them.It also helped me make the mental distinction between being a ‘helicopter parent’ (= raising eternally dependent children) vs. a guide who is on the battle field together with the child. The guide (parent) directs, helps and manages along the way when the demands placed on the kid with a learning disability in the regular school system are simply too much. Independence is a long-term goal but building confidence and little day-to-day-successes through parent and child team work are way more important in the here and now.Daniel Franklin gives step by step instructions which really helped me and shows in his writing that he has a big heart and understanding of kids of all ages and their families.Additional Note: Chapter 2 “Correctly Assessing your Child” speaks about the assessment procedure in the United States and the levels of support in public schools there. The procedure and system are slightly different in Canada but I still found the rest of the book general enough to be extremely helpful.
