This “stay positive in difficult times” story is about a man with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) and his wife who writes about their inspiring journey in her blog called ALS With Courage.
In Hold On, Let Go, Nadine Sands expands on her blog, which takes her readers from pre-diagnosis to Michael’s complete paralysis, and reflects throughout on her husband’s strength and determination; on their hope and faith in God; and the sorrow and joy of learning to let go.
“Mike has let go of working, walking, talking, eating, moving, and slowly he lets go of breathing. And I am letting go of him…. With each loss, we gain; by losing so much, we have more than we could imagine.”
Follow Nadine as she learns to savour every moment, to give thanks in all circumstances, and to cherish the love.
“Our love would never have known these depths had Mike been taken away suddenly. Instead we were given three to five years to rejoice, pray, and give thanks together every day.”

    Beautiful and real!
As a woman that is living with ALS, I was a little worried about reading this book. I thought maybe it would be depressing to read. It was quite the opposite. I was encouraged and uplifted inspire of the nature of my illness. Thank you Nadine for being so real and sharing your struggles and blessings!

    A loving lesson learned
This book was amazingly written. While extremely sad circumstances, the author who experienced it all through her amazing God Loving husband, showed me what true love, and loving God in all circumstances is about. I am never going to feel afraid of dying as Mike showed everyone he encountered what true love of God means.

    Heartwarming
Some people seem to write as though there’s a distance between them and their reader. Not so with Nadine. She’s right in my living room, talking to me. This is such a comforting, heart-warming book that I have recommended it to my book club at church.

A very inspiring story of love and compassion.
Hold on let go is an amazing book. While reading the stories I feel as though I’m a part of them somehow. Nadine captures all the little details in the lives of her family while facing the challenges of als. The book is not only a picture of what life with als is about but also shows us how the family draws closer to God during times of fear and uncertainty. Nadine and Mike have such great relationship with each other and with God that you get drawn in to a love story like no other. I don’t get very emotional when reading but Nadine accomplished that too. She also made me laugh and her husband Mike sure looks aty life in a funny way. All in all the best book I have read. Thank you Nadine for Sharing your story. IBrian

Every once in a while you read a book that you carry around in your purse so every free moment at the dentist, in the car waiting for the kids or on a coffee break you can dig it out and get drawn into it’s pages…this is that book. This book highlights a remarkable love between two people and their incredible journey. While enjoying that, it also helps us to all see our lives with clarity and shows us that we all have room for more gratitude despite our circumstances…

An incredible story of love and courage. An inspiration to me and my husband who is going through this same trial. We often refer back to what Mike and Nadine have experienced to help us when some of the days get a bit rough. Our faith in a loving God and the fact that so many others have lived with this affliction keeps us holding on to each other with the full expectation that there will be a time to let go. Thank you, Nadine, for publicizing the story of your journey.

Most of us are in pursuit of the “abundant life”. Nadine & Mike found it in the most unthinkable circumstance. Their story is real life: welcoming, gripping, inspiring, challenging! By inviting us into the living room of their lives, we laugh and cry with Mike & Nadine, as they gently teach us that everything we experience is a possibility toward the “abundant life” that Jesus invites us to. No matter what you are experiencing today, spending some time reading Hold On, Let Go will only enhance your journey.
