    Excellent guide dealing with autism
How to Help Your Child Thrive with Autism by Alexandra Phillips is an excellent guide for anyone to debunk the misconceptions of autism and understand what it is and how to deal with someone affected by ASD.Phillips takes a methodical approach to dealing with the subject in a Textbook style and provides step-by-step guidance. Some of the affected kids have savant-like qualities, but not all; the author describes the wide spectrum of it thoroughly.I was pleasantly surprised to learn about Maya, who was unusually calm for an ASD-affected child and grew to become a developer of successful software solutions. Indeed, Maya is not alone; Phillips gives many encouraging examples of such cases.Deep breathing, guided meditation, and Yoga help with ASD—I never knew. Phillips also mentioned so many different techniques to help with this difficult problem that I confidently say every caregiver should have a copy of this book and use it as a how-to manual.

    Excellent book on Autism
This book covers everything you need to know about autism in children. It provides practical advice and guidance on how to connect with your non verbal child, skills you can teach your child to make life easier for them and you, and how to create a structured environment allowing for growth and comfort. This book also includes real life success stories of families living with autistic children and includes guidance on holistic approaches to addressing autism in children. I really liked the section that covered guidance on how to tailor individual plans for different children that include the holistic involvement of parents, educators, therapists and healthcare providers. Overall, this book is excellent – I highly recommend it.

If you know a lot of autistic people, this book is a good referrence.
I know a lot of autistic people, both in my family and non-related. That’s why I got this book as an extra guide. I got it mostly because I come across a lot of children and adults who haven’t been diagnosed, and I want to understand them better – maybe help them understand themselves. This book was quite a heavy read, with many big words jumbled up in the same sentence. It would be easy to read if some words were simplified. Other than that, there is a lot of good information about people with autism. How they communicate is different and NOT a handicap. I like how the author highlighted that. Sometimes I feel like I’m on the spectrum and wanted to see if I could relate to the characteristics of an autistic person. Of course, I can. I will apply the skills offered in this book to my life, especially communication. I’m grateful for the “bridging of the gap.” That’s how I’d like to describe this book.

    Great Guide for Parents
If you’re a parent navigating the world of autism, this book is like having a compassionate guide by your side. It breaks down Autism Spectrum Disorder in a way that’s easy to understand, while offering practical, real-life tips to help your child grow and thrive. The author does an amazing job of explaining what ASD really means, without overwhelming you with unnecessary jargon. She also shares actionable strategies to create a supportive environment for your child, including tips for understanding nonverbal cues and encouraging their unique strengths. I also found it really refreshing how the book doesn’t push a one-size-fits-all solution—everything is about tailoring approaches to your child’s individual needs. Highly recommend!

I wanted to know what I might learn from such a title. “Autism isn’t a disease, and your child isn’t sick; their brain just works differently” is a great starting point. I learnt that the ASD spectrum is a prism rather than linear and that while an autistic child may not be able to communicate verbally, they’ll understand what’s being communicated and respond in other ways. Feeling empathy might not be natural, but using tailored social stories can explain social behaviour where emotions are labelled. I learned of the importance of applied behaviour analysis and the need for a personalised autism management plan. It was a great start to putting labels on what I’d just observed with different kids from a distance and a very straightforward outline of the main issues.

With older children diagnosed with autism, it’s interesting to compare my journey with the therapies that are available today.I’m in the UK and although special needs is a legal obligation, getting the help required is an absolute battle and for me lasted 8 years, making the early interventions that could have been implemented a missed opportunity. It’s always about budgets and resources. This book is extremely detailed and even though my kids are in their late twenties, I’ve picked up some valuable strategies and ideas that I want to try and implement to improve motivation and responsiveness. If you can get access to the help, this book is an ideal roadmap to understand the options available to assist aspects of behaviour. There are so many specialists that can help if you research and understand the areas that need help.
