Huntington’s disease is a genetically inherited condition which results in severe nerve-cell damage in the brain. The hereditary and debilitative nature of the disease means that many people are involved either directly or indirectly by this condition.
This book has been written for patients and the families and carers of people with Huntington’s disease (HD). It provides an accessible introduction to the condition that explains the physical, behavioural, and emotional features of the disease, the important role of genetics and options for those at risk of developing the condition, plus advice on managing and treating symptoms. Patient perspectives are included throughout, offering real-life accounts from people who have or know someone with the condition.
This new edition has been fully updated to include all the latest research in HD. It gives more detail on the standard treatments, as well as explaining new trials aimed at reducing the level of the abnormal protein (huntingtin) in the brains of patients.

David Purdom –
Huntington’s Disease Heroes-incredible accounts
David Purdom- Amazon customerI have just started to read Huntington’s Disease Heroes.Chapter 22 by Archana Ravada is a truly extraordinary and vivid account of her life and the physical and emotional impact of this terrible disease.Heartbreaking, so sad, tear provoking, incredible courage and bravery but also astonishingly optimism, achievements and solutions to negate some of the terrible impacts of the disease through meditation and fitness and so much selflessness to help others.I am ashamed that I new nothing of the detail of this shocking illness until recently but the book has given me insight and awareness and motivated me to try to help.I believe that anyone who reads Chapter 22, and indeed all chapters will benefit. Those people, family and friends sadly directly affected by HD of course, those with any illness or trauma or depression, but also those who are happy or unhappy in their lives because it provides a thought provoking perspective on life and what can still be achieved in the most harsh and ‘impossible’ circumstances. As many readers have said it is an inspirational book and so much more.Thank you so much to all the contributors for their honesty and for sharing their most personal moments to help others and to the many people who must have worked so hard to make the book possible.
