Effective helping hand for those unable to open bottles or jars
This jar opener is an amazing improvement over the older plastic ones. Made entirely from stainless steel, this jar opener is durable, simple, and highly functional. It is designed to be space efficient at about 1” by about 6” in size (it is very thin – only about 0.3”) so it can easily tuck into your utensil drawer with other critical kitchen tools. This jar opener can fit any size lid (bottle caps, medication lids – including child resistant ones, jar lids, etc) up to about 4” in diameter. The opener provides extra leverage, making it easy to open lids with weak, painful, and/or arthritic hands. I put off purchasing a new jar opener for so long, recalling what a pain my last one was – still requiring a tight grip, even though it added leverage, and never fitting the lid I needed to open – but this one is perfect for my needs! I highly recommend this jar opener for anyone who struggles to open any threaded lid up to 4” in diameter. It helps to preserve your independence and can help make cooking a joy again (though I can’t promise it will make you like cooking if you never did before weakness and pain interfered).

Works but could be better
I was able to use this jar opener successfully but there is a lot of room for improvement. There are rubber pads that grip onto the jar lid and the material gets decent traction but I think the pad should be a bit taller. When battling with a particularly stuck lid and I need to grip extra tightly, the amount of force causes the pad to compress and smoosh to the side. I can see after maybe a year of use, the pad splitting and making the whole thing useless. I feel like a wider pad might lessen that problem. The other cause for concern is the teeth that the mechanism needs to grab onto to create the force. The teeth are just too low and smooth to reliably grab. It did work for me as a jar opener, but I had to do a lot of fussing with the grip to get it to grab. Anyhow, it works for now but could be much better. Not the best for arthritic hands as it does require quite a bit of grip strength.
