Heavy duty, sturdy grab bar.
Well made. Moen an excellent plumbing fixture company.I ordered this grab bar used with damaged packaging. It arrived in perfect condition.

Sturdy, but read this if installing over porcelain
Sturdy and heavy – this is a substantial fixture and well with the money. I feel confident that my grandparents will have no issues if they need to grab onto this in the shower. I’m mostly writing this review to alert future owners and installers of this grab bar that you will need a 5/16″ drill bit too install this over tile. The installation instructions call for a 1/4″ wood drill bit, which may be fine if installing over drywall/wood, however the unthreaded shaft of the included screws (the part nearest the head) is wider than the threaded section and wouldn’t fit into the 1/4″ holes I’d painstakingly made in the porcelain tile. In my case, I needed to get 5/16″ diamond coated drill bits in order to get the screws through the grab bar plate and into the porcelain tile. Just trying to save time for the next person who needs to install this grab bar. In case it bears repeating, if drilling into porcelain tile, be sure to use diamond coated drill bits. Porcelain is so much harder than ceramic tile … I went through several different bits before I figured out my problem and then had to deal with getting the right size of bits. This added extra time to what should have been a straightforward installation. But, now I have lots of extra drill bits, so hey… By the way, the inexpensive Chinese bits sold here on Amazon worked flawlessly – dare I say they worked better than the Name Brand red bit which cost more for one than a multipack of the Chinese ones.

Excellent appearance and strength
If you are going for a grab bar, don’t go cheap. Buy a reliable, well-known brand like Moen. This looks great and my elderly dad LOVES it. It gives him something super stable to hand onto in the bathroom and can be folded up when we need to move things around or clean. Great purchase.

Excellent IF INSTALLED properly
We had these at our old house and just bought them to install here. To be safe they must be installed properly. The installers opened the wall from the back side. They put two 2″ X 12″ boards sandwiched together in the space between the studs. Then they inserted the bolts that hold the base plate of these in from the back, ie through the two thicknesses of 2 X 12s. We are larger people. We never had any give to any of these we used. Expensive, but worth it, and they work better than the plain fixed ones.

Backplate not perfectly flat (slight curvature, thus not flush with wall).
The backplate was not completely flat and has a curvature, and is not completely flush on the wall but it is still strong enough. The parts are welded together, it is possible that the backplate became slightly deformed during the manufacturing process.

Best purchase ever!
This is one of the best purchases I think I have ever made from Amazon. I had been using an over-the-toilet commode in a small bathroom which was very difficult to navigate around. It made cleaning the bathroom and getting into the shower very difficult. I was always catching my foot on one of the legs. I really despised it. This thing is so sturdy—the arm will stay down or up depending on what one wants. If my bathroom was bigger, I would have one on either side. I like the fact that they are so unobtrusive; my bathroom doesn’t look like a “handicapped” bathroom any more. It’s made of heavy steel. In fact, the day I had it installed the arm was down, and I stumbled in the bathroom and was able to grab the arm, and it saved me. My floor is ceramic tile, and I would surely have hit my head, and that would have done me in.The only caution is that the screws that came with it weren’t really long or sturdy enough. The guy who installed it for me bought some special screws that have it anchored to the wall so well, I think an elephant could sit on it, and nothing would happen. I believe if it is installed correctly, one couldn’t help but love it.

Grab bar with innovative possibilities
I purchased this equipment to use as a stabilizer while doing various exercises in my garage. It does require serious mounting backing and bolts, but it can be done by any person with handy skills and tools. I used some 2×6’s that I bolted across two studs (outside the sheetrock since appearance wasn’t important) and it is very sturdy. I can use the bar and then easily flip it up out of the way. I need to do leg exercises at the hip, knee and ankles on both legs so this bar provides the stability I need in order to insure good full range on all joints. I feel secure and safe during the whole process.I admit I was using the back of a dining chair before I saw this grab bar while looking for a shower grab bar and hit upon the idea. Needless to say the dining chair did have serious limits. I have been using this bar with great success for a couple of years now so I thought I should write a review for others who may be looking for something along these lines.

Such a great help
We attach this to the wall in my mom’s assisted living facility. A huge shower with only three sides to it and this works great, gives her something to hang on to

The bar feels very very solid, looks good and nicely folds out of the way when not needed. Looked like it did exactly what I wanted, but I had to return it because I could not install it in the way it requires to meet the safety specs. To install there are 6 large 4″ long 1/4″ wide hex woods screws that need to be secured into solid wood — cannot use drywall anchors or even Moen Securemount anchors. Especially since the bar is freestanding and the user might apply all their body weight down on the bar when standing. The two rows of screws are further apart than the width of my wall stud, so I couldn’t install all 6 screws into a stud, only 3 of them. So this items requires special structure (e.g., wood reinforcement behind the drywall) to meet the safety specs. Do some research online on installation before buying to make sure this works for you.

Our bathroom walls are solid wood (log home), so installing this exactly where we wanted was easy. It’s also very sturdy and safe to use for someone like me with balance issues when climbing in and out of the bath. I did have to replace the hardware as it was not sufficient for solid log wall installation (used lag bolts, instead). No other issues or problems installing or using this safety rail. Highly recommended. 🙂

Buen artículo, aunque en las especificaciones deben mencionar que los tornillos son para colocar en madera. Si se colocará en concreto, hay que comprar taquetes adecuados y tener a la mano la herramienta correcta.
