Betty Eaves –
Helping the Autistic Child
There are so many wonderful books for teachers today. Dr. Shelton tackles the area of autism, which is an area that so many parents and teachers have little knowledge. Dr. Shelton goes in depth with practical and common sense approaches, based on years of experience and research. She gives concrete ideas for activities and useful ways to implement learning geared to young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. She stresses social skills and behavior should be addressed along with academic learning, within the framework of teaching the whole child. Everything in her book works equally well with children that are not autistic. It seems that she highlights the importance of reaching the child with asd in a systematic and structured manner. Reading between the lines, Dr. Shelton’s professional presentation comes from a place of love for children and for those that teach them. If you need more knowledge about helping an autistic child, you will find it here.
