Randy’s Way: A Marine’s Faith-Based Journey with ALS
$12.00
Randy’s Way is a must read for anyone interested in studying the lives of real-life heroes and heroines and learning how they earned their titles. The book tells the story of a dynamic, “high potential” Marine Corps officer who selflessly exchanged his quality of life for a role in the Gulf War and who, in so doing, began to cultivate a closer, hand-in-hand walk with God. Kim, Randy’s wife of three years at the time, never wavered in her devotion to Randy, even when given the devastating news that her gifted and athletic husband had contracted ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) as a result of the Gulf War’s toxic cocktail. The epic account of events leading up to that life-altering moment and the twenty-five years that followed gives new meaning to the phrase, “courage under fire.” Enjoy this inspiring example of how to keep ones faith strong while being faithful and resilient as a husband and father, in spite of overwhelming challenges.Set in the quaint resort town of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, this true story illustrates how people can overcome any challenge through faith in God. Chocked full of humorous and serious anecdotes covering nearly fifty years, readers will be inspired by how the residents of this small town on the southern Outer Banks band together to ensure Randy, Kim, Nicole and Kyle are included in all aspects of the island community. Randy’s Way is a tribute to the heroic lives the entire Hebert family have lived since coming face-to-face with this debilitating disease nearly twenty-five years ago.

Inspiring, comforting and hopeful
In full disclosure, I know Randy and his wife Kim through my position as president of The ALS Association North Carolina Chapter. They did not ask me to write this review but I felt compelled to. Randy and Kim are beyond extraordinary. They are both tenacious and as resilient as they come. I knew this before I read Randy’s Way; the book only reinforced it for me. The author did an exceptional job of telling Randy’s story. I now know so much more about Randy from his youth, his service in the United States Marines and how he and Kim met and fell in love.ALS is a tough disease. Caregiving is incredibly difficult as the author captures very well. Life can be difficult and the Hebert (pronounced A-Bear) family has experienced more than their share of difficult times. You will laugh and you will likely shed a tear or two. This is an excellent book for anyone facing adversity. In the end, my take away is that God, family, friends and country are the Hebert priorities. Whether you are a person of faith or not, I believe you will find this book to be both inspiring, comforting and hopeful.

fighting the good fight of faith
I attend church with Randy and Kim and have seen their walk of faith in the Lord Jesus for many years. This book gives insight into the life of the man who is a hard charging marine and who is more importantly a hard charging Christian, fighting the good fight of faith. And the book tells of the faith of Kim as she sees the hand of God’s hand steering them through the storms of life and blessing them, especially during the house fire and the rebuilding effort. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about their adventure. Prayers and Blessing.

A great depiction of a young family’s struggle with this hellish disease known as ALS. I especially appreciated the presentation of the bad with the good. A very encouraging and uplifting story, but we also got glimpses of their very real struggles and saw clearly how their faith triumphs the very worst of trials. Blessings to Randy, Kim, and family. You are a blessing to me as a caregiver for a husband with ALS. ❤️

I had the pleasure of serving with Major Hebert at Ft. Leonard Wood. When I found out about this book I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I started reading it and could not put it down. As my good friend, Col Richard J Smith, said “Randy’s Way is a captivating compilation about two American heroes…” Highly recommended!!
