Tom O’Neill –
I found this book useful
While the general public are increasingly aware of Autism Spectrum Disorders, some of the issues the disorder entails are less well known. Sensory issues are one of these, and one that’s difficult to explain as it’s different for everyone, so it’s great to see a book that discusses them and some options for living and working with sensory issues.

I am HFA, High-Functioning Autist. I’ve got a number of sensory processing differences which I am proud of but also scared sometimes – that feeling that you live in a different coordinate system to the rest of the world. This book is well written, is accessible, and outlines a number of strategies folks with all flavours of SPD will appreciate.

Very basic

At only 160 pages and containing an explanation of sensory systems and processes before getting into how this might affect autistic people, any topic only has a couple of pages at most. That’s not to say it’s not interesting but there just isn’t enough on any area. It’s probably most useful to someone newly dealing with an autistic person in a professional capacity. It isn’t really for autistic people themselves which is a shame. The book also uses person first language.

Very insightful.
