Great Introduction to a Diabetes-Friendly Diet
The Simple Diabetic Cookbook for Beginners is a great cookbook if you are looking to meal plan for healthy eating. The book includes an introduction and background on the diabetic-friendly diet. It also includes a 30-Day Meal Plan. Chapters include a variety of foods, including Breakfasts, Fish and Seafood, and Stews and Soups. Each recipe includes information regarding the prep time, cook time, servings, ingredients, and directions. The recipes are short and to the point. I bought this book as an ebook on kindle and had no issues reading it electronically. Navigating to different chapters is very easy through the Table of Contents button on the kindle toolbar. Also, you can change the font size, type, and page theme. Kindle also makes it so that you can easily highlight and notate sections of text and bookmark significant pages. My only criticism would be that I wish the recipes included pictures.Overall, a really good cookbook to introduce yourself to a Diabetes-Friendly Diet.

No need to forfeit taste, just follow these recipes!!
This is a great cookbook not only for those that are learning to cook with Diabetes, but also for anyone who wants to learn recipes that promote a healthier lifestyle. This is also an informative cookbook because it talks about the principles of eating with Diabetes. The introduction talks about how the recipes help the reader manage the glycemic index and how to sustain keeping blood sugar levels low. It also talks about the importance of portion control. Essentially, these recipes will keep the reader satisfied by providing nutrient rich meals. It provides adaptations and tips to favorite recipes too.In Chapter one, Derr explains macro nutrients as well as the Glycemic Index in more depth. Then, he discusses balancing the plate in what he calls “The Plate Method”. Derr explains what mindful eating is and its importance to understand when the body is full to help with portion control. Lastly, he provides tips for grocery shopping, which is always where I struggle with when I want to try new recipes. The chapter also has a 30 day meal plan.Chapter 2 to Chapter 12 are sections of recipes. Some of the sections are breakfast, beans & grains, beef, pork & lamb, poultry, snacks, sides, desserts and so much more. When the cover said 2000 recipes, it meant it! There are so many delicious recipes in this book. Anything to everything you would want to cook is in this book. The recipes are also laid out really easily. Under the title of the recipe, the prep time, cook time, and serving size is in bold. Then the ingredients are bullets. The recipe directions are numerically listed. Finally, each recipe provides macro nutrient amounts and calories. I love when recipes list the amount of protein, sugar, carbs, fat, etc. because it is so much easier for me to know exactly what I am putting in my body. I am not a diabetic, but I have changed my lifestyle to where I eat a significant amount of protein and have a certain amount of grams for each macro nutrient. I have to keep my blood sugar low so this cookbook was a great purchase. I feel like I could cook so many different things because it has so many options! Great buy!!
