The Clot Thickens: The enduring mystery of heart disease
$16.95
“Malcolm Kendrick’s masterly survey of the enduring mystery of heart disease reads like a detective story. With great verve he marshals the evidence for the two main contending theories, exonerates the presumed suspect and makes a formidable case for thrombogenesis (blood clotting) as the perpetrator. Witty, provocative and entertaining, ‘The Clot Thickens’ packs a powerful scientific punch. Highly recommended.”
Dr James Le Fanu
Doctor, journalist, author of ‘The Rise and Fall of Modern Medicine.’
“Malcolm Kendrick’s new book brings to mind the quote from Thomas Huxley when he first learned of Darwin’s theory of evolution: ‘how extremely stupid (of me) not to have thought of that’. What Kendrick presents is nothing less than a unifying theory of heart disease, that explains why everything from sickle cell disease to diabetes to a stressful lifestyle increases cardiovascular risk (and he does it with a large dollop of humour). After decades stuck in the blind alley that is the LDL hypothesis, this book is a revelation. It should be read by anyone with even a slight interest in understanding heart disease and what they can do to protect themselves from it.”

This is a 150-year detective story with a cast of unrecognised heroes who may, finally, become known for their work on the true causes of heart disease. Exploring the truth about cholesterol – the apparently tried, and convicted, cause of millions of deaths from heart disease – with billions spent each year on lowering cholesterol with diet and drugs.
Is it possible that our villain was simply left holding the gun whilst the true culprits ran and hid? Have they escaped our clutches?
Dr Kendrick also introduces us to a range of other lesser known characters in this tale of selective reporting, data manipulation and intrigue. The true story of heart disease is out there, and the evidence has been brought together here – a scientific mystery for our time that is ready to unfold.

Want to know how the whole process of arterial sclerosis happens?
Want to know how the whole process on why arterial sclerosis happens? It’s not caused by “high cholesterol”.As we may know, cholesterol is a necessary component in the human body as it’s performs many functions to keep the mechanics of our body working right. In addition, there are many different components of cholesterol, High density, low density, very low density, buoyant, and more, and the breakdown helps us to understand that it’s really not how much cholesterol is in the body, but the “inflammation” process that starts arterial injury with the repair process following that can turn into an arterial plaque or clots. The author’s teaching process has a fair amount of satire to make understanding the whole process fun and easy in addition to explaining how arterial plaques build up, what are the real causes, and, how to prevent it from happening.Moving on, he explains howstatin drugs can reduce the amount of cholesterol your body makes, but it also how it hinders some important physiological processes that your body should be doing. After reading this book, you may find yourself asking a few questions about your diet, lifestyle and medications that you have been using.A very informative read to say the least.

Enjoying the book!
I am an only a layperson, though with my passion to educate others and being one who highly enjoys conducting research, I purchased this book to further my understanding of heart disease and the cardiovascular system. I am reading this book on Kindle, and have only just read 12 percent. But, being so impressed with the author’s findings, and his clever, humorous comments interspersed with his insightfulness, I decided to scroll to the end of the book to learn his name and how I might get in contact with him by email. Being an author of a stem cell book, who previously travelled around the country presenting another Medical Doctors materials about Cardiovascular Disease to audiences of up to 300 people, all I can say at this point is I am highly enjoying this very interesting book, and I intend to read it to the finish. I also believe with Dr. Kendrick’s clever sense of humor, his friends and family are very lucky to be in his presence as they are likely being continually entertained. (I now consult for a nutritional company called Boomers Forever Young, which offers a few highly advanced products for cardiovascular health.). So, if you want to know more about cardiovascular health, this book is for you.

Must Read: If Only for the Humor
I have had ongoing battles with my Internal Medicine Docs for decaades. Of course, all about lipid levels and their desire to prescribe statins. I recently decided to get a cardiac check up and saw a well regarded specials. All were great except the Coronary Artery Calcium levels, which were declared ‘modest.’ The cardiologist told me “You Have HEART DISEASE.” And, of course, recommended statins! Fortunately, I have a doc friend in Chicago who knew all about the inflammation theories of heart disease and put me on a regiment of supplements to modulate my mitochondria. I then came across Dr. Kendrick’s book, which should be read if only because he has a first class sense of humor. Additionally, it is the single best, most comprehensive evaluation of heart disease caused by inflammatory distress. He makes the book approachable at whatever depth of inquiry you choose to follow. Finally, I’ve decided that I have a perfect opportunity to be a guinea pig for my allopathic cardiologist and will follow up with him annually to show him how the alternative pathway to understand heart disease really works. I’m buying him a copy of Kendrick’s book as a test of intellectual honesty. I will report back. In the meanwhile, buy the book for yourself and for anyone who is taking statins.PS My hypothesis of the origin of my arterial plaque is that it has come from my infected root canals. Kendrick disucsses the link between peridontal disease and heart issues. However, I suggest you look for Dr. Thomas Levy’s interviews (especially with Joseph Mercola) on line. He will outline his hypothesis in detail, but more important will recommend a ‘cone beam’ xray to identify infections in your teeth, gums, jaw and sinuses that will never show up with ordinary dental xrays.

A pleasure; fits the data much better than the orthodox view
This book answers a lot of questions and puts the whole topic on better logical foundations, while at the same yielding valuable practical advice. It’s also an amusing pleasure to read and highly recommended. To only slightly oversimplify, the orthodox medical view is that the mere presence of low-density-lipoprotein (LDL) particles in the blood is the significant causative factor of heart disease. However, there are glaring logical gaps in this hypothesis, for example:1) Since the LDL particles pass through both arteries and veins, why do they only cause plaques in arteries?2) Why is heart disease risk significantly reduced when blood levels of high-density-lipoprotein (HDL) are increased and LDL is held constant?3) Since LDL particles are evenly distributed in the cardiovascular system, why do the arteriosclerotic plaques show up more often at specific points, in particular in the coronary arteries or near arterial branch points, instead of also being evenly distributed in the system like the LDL?This book gives an alternative, very compelling hypothesis for the primary cause of heart disease, that answers all these questions, and many more. The hypothesis is so obvious, that you are almost left saying, why didn’t I think of that? The last part of the book is devoted to recommendations on how to avoid heart disease which logically follow. Most of these will not be surprising, but the logical foundations help in understanding why they really make sense, and in explaining a few that are less well known.

Excellent book. Great info in regards to heart health and the outdated info we’ve been told. Written with a cheeky British humour which made it enjoyable to read as well as being such great info.

An excellent book, very well documented, in a language that is accessible to non-native readers. And the author has an amazing sense of humour!

Warto przeczytać i zrozumieć.

It is the best book explaining CVD. The author uses his professional expertise to challenge the mainstream medical advocates, providing plenty of evidence.
