FROM NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR DR. JASON FUNG • “The doctor who invented intermittent fasting.” —The Daily Mail

“Dr. Fung reveals how [type 2 diabetes] can be prevented and also reversed using natural dietary methods instead of medications … This is an important and timely book. Highly recommended.” —Dr. Mark Hyman, author of The Pegan Diet

“Dr. Jason Fung has done it again. … Get this book!” —Dr. Steven R. Gundry, author of The Plant Paradox

Everything you believe about treating type 2 diabetes is wrong. Today, most doctors, dietitians, and even diabetes specialists consider type 2 diabetes to be a chronic and progressive disease—a life sentence with no possibility of parole. But the truth, as Dr. Fung reveals in this groundbreaking book, is that type 2 diabetes is reversible.

Writing with clear, persuasive language, Dr. Fung explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease. The only way to treat type 2 diabetes effectively, he argues, is proper dieting and intermittent fasting—not medication.

“The Diabetes Code is unabashedly provocative yet practical … a clear blueprint for everyone to take control of their blood sugar, their health, and their lives.”—Dr. Will Cole, author of Intuitive Fasting

    Get healthy
This diabetes code book is not just for diabetics. My husband 65 yrs, was diagnosed with type two diabetes, which is a nice way to say you are overweight. The food and medical industry does not clearly or does not want to clearly know what makes people fat. This book is an easy read describes how the body works, and how all the food groups work to help our bodies perform properly ,if you are truly wanting to make a change in your life. This book is fantastic! We the people have been fooled for a long time ! Do yourself a favor order this book! I will now be Purchasing the diabetic code cookbook😊!

For Me, a Truly Life Altering Book
Concerned about diabetes or dealing with the stress and worry of a new diagnosis? Buy this book. I found it compelling. Dr. Fung’s explanation of the disease is both easy to comprehend and frightening. But then Dr. Fung offers some hope, where few others do. They just want to medicate. So here’s my story. After a fasting blood sugar reading in 2024 in the 90s, my doctor told me to lose 5 pounds. I lost it, but then gained it all back during the holidays. In January 2025 my fasting blood sugar was 139. A subsequent A1C test came back at 7.1.On my brother’s advice, I bought this book and the cookbook and followed Dr. Fung’s advice scrupulously. In three months time I have lost 42 pounds. I am off my blood pressure medication I have been on for more than two years. My A1C is a normal range 5.6. Not in my wildest expectations did I think these kind of results would follow, and certainly not so rapidly. It is one anecdotal experience, but if this review persuades even one other person to give this a try, resulting in a longer and more abundant life for that person, I will count my anecdote as having great value. And that’s in addition to my own vast relief at not following the slow but inevitable decline I have seen among my relatives “managing” their diabetes with medication.

How and why intermittent fasting plays a large role in the remission if diabetes.
I am only on Chapter 5, but I have read Fung before so know where he is going. This book provides a lot of detail into diabetes and the way it works. Keep in mind Fong’s model is different than the accepted model and what the ADA adheres to. He presents a great case and clearly demonstrates how it works, and it is quite plausible that the popular model for diabetes may be incorrect. Maybe that’s why no cure has been found! He clearly defines and demonstrates why intermittent fasting plays a large role in the remission of diabetes.

    Incomplete Picture
I have no doubt that the information Dr. Fung presents is accurate and lifesaving. I’ve recently competed reading it and I am motivated as I embark on my 2023 journey to combat pre-diabetes, obesity, hypertension and osteoarthritis. Dr. Fung is a proponent of Low Carb/High Fat (LCHF) diets, which are nothing new, so that is not groundbreaking news. Although I read every word, I found his explanations unnecessarily technical, and was anxious to “cut to the chase” and learn how to “prevent and reverse type 2 diabetes naturally” as the book cover touts. Unfortunately, that chapter doesn’t appear in the 265 page book until the very end and is only 44 pages in length. (His Endnotes and Index pages are nearly that long at 41 pages!) I appreciate Fung’s attention to detail and his academic and scientific approach, but I feel it falls slightly short in describing practical application. The biggest takeaway for me, is that in addition to diet, Intermittent Fasting (IF) is the magic bullet for the obesity/diabetes (and comorbidities) dilemma. Yet, very few pages are devoted to IF, and that section is lacking practical application information such as how to break a fast, what to expect, and what happens to the body during an extended fast. I have had to look for this information elsewhere, but would have appreciated Dr. Fung’s expertise on the subject. (So many IF “experts” lack any medical degree or are trying to hawk products, and they each have different philosophies and approaches, making IF feel daunting.) Dr. Fung has written a book about IF, so that’s my next step.In short, good book, solid science, may be too technical for some, but perfect for the person who wants to understand the whys and what for’s of insulin resistance. Low Carb/High (healthy)Fat clean eating and IF seems to be the prescription here.UPDATE: It only took two weeks for me to improve my fasting blood glucose from an average of 131 to 88 solely from using the Clean Keto diet and IF. I have lost some weight, as well. My hypertension has not gone down yet, but I am hoping that this will be my prescription for that, too.

Very informative for even seasoned nurses!
I heard about this book from my nurse friend and being a nurse myself decided to buy it. The author explains Diabetes in a fashion that experienced nurses learned from. Great book.
