    A wide-ranging book about epilepsy.
Back in 2006 I bought and read this book, and now after an epileptic seizure 2 week ago, after more than 2 ½ year without drugs and seizures, I then again have read it.In 2004 I then for the second time in my life had a seizure, while the first one happened 39 years earlier, way back in 1975, a year after a brain accident in the traffic; but without drugs after the seizure in 1975. And then during the years from 2004 to 2014 I bought 10 books especially about epilepsy, as seizures then started to repeat after the seizure in 2004, with many months between them. But actually, I then believed, and still believe that’s caused by stress, which I warned about to a doctor ¾ of a year before the seizure in 2004, but the doctors here in Chiang Mai don’t know about stress. Besides the epilepsy books bought since 2003, when then starting to living here in Thailand I among bought books have bought a bit more than 400 health/doctor books, as missing libraries. But after now reading this book again, I find that it’s probably the best book I owe concerning epilepsy, this because when compares to my other books it actual covers the widest aspect about epilepsy, and by this being the most helpful first hand book about epilepsy. Besides as it’s written by a patient wanting to get most possibly knowledge about her epileptic problem. For example, in the book there are interesting writings about the Ketogenic diets, concerning which I have nothing in the other books. And then after on the sides 176 – 177 reading about acupuncture, I now am speculating about if I should try this. Because back in 1996 I suddenly a day woke up with paint in my left knee and nearly couldn’t walk, and this without doubt caused by an ice skating accident back in 1963 which then caused 3 times in hospital. And then by an accident my new doctor probably was the first one in Denmark who also had been educated in acupuncture; in Paris. So two times to her, and never pain since then. And now living in Thailand we have many persons educated in acupuncture. And the book of course also comes with good information about drugs used against epilepsy, but of course there have come more new drugs since when the book was printed. But concerning the drugs she tells that after her first seizure, as the result of falling of a horse 6 year earlier, the drugs which she then got made her tiered and sleepy. The same for me as the result of the 2 drugs which a doctor gave me 2 weeks ago, which destroyed my thinking and made me sleep 10 hours, so I stopped taking these drugs, and then instead getting the magnesium, zinc, and E vitamin which I had been missing a few weeks before the accident. And where she also in the book tells about the importance of these minerals and the vitamin, besides others. In the chapter “Foods That Harm”, she among other warms against alcohol and sugar. And after a motorcycle accident in 2008 as result of seizure, and thereby destroying my right arm, I in another book found that a doctor back in 1976 came with a report telling about how alcohol increases the chance on seizures, and highest 18 -24 hours later. And I then found that all of my seizures actually had been the results of around 4 bears by parties 1 or 2 days before the seizures. But before 2004 this newer happened, so aging in the connection with stress, as I believe, but the doctors don’t understand. But again a good book among other as it also tells about naturally treating, as we know that most doctors only have learned to use drugs or surgeries, and nothing about vitamins, minerals, and herbs, which has no side problems as all of the drugs, as they not are naturals.

Excellent, you learn many ways to avoid or control seizures NATURALLY, understand how they are produced and how avoiding them
Excellent book, We live in Mexico, my daugher that is 3 years old now has hypotonic syndrome, CVI, polimicrogiria, , iused to get anticonvulsionants, things were good to her, and the medication was removed (slowly), then months later, she started to have a few zeizures again, I called the pediatric neurologist, and he prescribed the anticonvulsionant again, but the few light seizures did not stop, so I called him and he increased the dosis, but the few seizures continued. So for me this was wrong, I desesperately looked for information and ordered this EXCELENT book, I read it through and learned so many things…..and apply them, I shared the informaiton with our team (nutriologist, pediatrician, VIT, and terapist, so we conclude THANKSTO THE BOOK:My daugher needed to rest (We induced for naps at the middle of the day)…..needed complements in her diet, she needed to avoid stress (We took her daily to the park, she enjoys “seeing” the trees, She had diarrhia for many days (weeks) and that unbalanced her metabolicly and bioquimically, and she was getting some diary products, we arranged this with medication and care, some problems were found in the way her diet was done, besides she normally has her fingers into her mouth, this caused many of those troubles as when she goes to the therapy tank (pool), she used to get contamintations, and she needed many things like fish oil (from sardines, not canned), she takes one or the other day meat juice….etc, all this was implemented and the seizures disaperared, so the toxitoxines of the convultionans were not needed, nor even the solution, and I learned all this from the book, Patricia has a very nice way to explain, and yes, we can treat epilepsy naturaly, and this is the solution, not the anticonvulsinants…….it is a shame that many “doctors” do not read enough or at least books like this one,Now my daugher is stable and I also learned that the old ways the doctor work just saying what they “think” is wrong, they just should avoid to give prescritions without consulting the parents, mainly if we are well informed (thanks to the book), and the solution should be given like Advice and in a team with the parents, from this excellent book, then for other treatment they prescribed I looked for natural equivalents, that minimize all the secondary issues many drugs have, and this has been a change in the life of my little daugher, Thanks Patricia I understood that the seizures of my daugher were symtomatic and not from problems in the brain, and I was able to solve it, giving my daugher a good change in her life, without the book, I would continue giving anticonvulsionants even increasing amounts and that was not the solution……..

Highly recommend for anyone with epilepsy
Being one of those frustrated patients who is not getting the answers I need about my seizures, I found this book very helpful. It has given me many ideas to try and I am very thankful for that. I will say that this book needs to be updated. There are some terms used that could be offensive to others. Also, I would love to see if the author has discovered anything new that could be helpful.

    Just finished
I just finished reading this book and this was the BEST book I’ve read about healing epilepsy! I mean, WOW. It gives so much more than you think. Case studies, different books that you can read about correlating topics.. I mean, just wow. I had friend over a couple of months ago and as soon he saw the book he said “what are you reading?” And then proceeded to tell me how much Patricia Murphy was such a good author. It made me engage even more. Highly recommend. I cried when I got to the last page. I loved loved LOVED it. I loved the transparency. And as a single woman who has epilepsy, I really appreciate that and all the time she put into writing it.<3

This book came highly recommended to my from a friend. At first, I had a hard time identifying with the author as it seems more targetted to people who have Grand Mal seizures which I do not. My objective in reading the book was to find ways to generally feel better and to eventually reduce my medication. Based on author’s suggestions, I have made changes to my diet, notably removing all diet products, and have seen a difference in how feel on a daily basis. I will be discussing a number of the other suggestions with my neurologist soon. I highly recommend this book and hope that it can help you.

I liked the way that you spoke in your book as if we were perfectly sane human beings, who could understand and do the research that many scientific drs don’t bother to even try doing, because they’re so hooked up with getting their titles, finding out what all the names of the drugs are and what the main things to watch out for with them are, and what pays the best money to them to sell or get their patients taking, no matter how damaging to a clients life it can be. I am delighted that you looked at the herbal and natural ways of treating Epilepsy, as I am going towards having a life that is totally natural, after 40yrs on scientific medicines that have literally wrecked and ruined my life, stopping me from being able to work, even though I’ve got 3 Diplomas, endles years of experince of Performance and teaching privately, or working voluntarily with severely disabled and elderly, or mentally ill people, and could have been a real asset to the working world with a career in Music Therapy or Performance of Music/Drama/Teaching the Slow learners and forgotten people in communities across the globe in neglected countries who needed such skills to help them get through life. I thank you for writing such a book and would be ever so grateful if you were able to put me in touch with Natural Herbal Doctors or Qualified Practicioners who would be willing to help mentor me off the medication I am currently on via the NHS, onto purely Herbal and Mineral based medicines, as I already take some of these alongside the NHS drugs I’ve been on for 40yrs. with horrible side-effects and harmful diseases developing from them, which Drs won’t bother to treat except with more drugs that harm you and can even do damage by interfering with the original drugs. That’s how little they know about the medicines. Miss Julie C Duffy, LLCM.
