Nice basic E-paper display
This does not come with a driver board (and is advertised as such). I used a driver board from one of my other displays to get this one running and it worked as expected. At this size and resolution, you can get quite a bit of information on the screen without it being bulky and annoyingly large for specific use cases. It is a bit on the slower side with a 24s refresh time, so keep that in mind when reviewing this as an option for your project.

Sample Code (With Waveshare universal Driver Board) Does Not Work
The sample code provided using the universal E paper HAT from their website and the python example code does not work. The display flickers randomly in quadrants, and does not consistently display any text. The code committed for this display was added as of four months ago (added March 2024). The manufacturers website does not list the universal epaper HAT as being compatible with this display — give it a few months/a year to wait until the manufacturer updates their code and documentation to buy this and verify that it actually works, because right now, mine doesn’t.

Large three color ePaper for most static displays, no driver board included
The biggest thing to acknowledge about this ePaper display is that no driver board is included. I used an existing ePaper display I had with a compatible driver board to set this one up and run through the sample code available at the Waveshare website.5.79″ in this aspect ratio leads to a fairly large display area that is nice and wide. I’m using mine to rotate through stock quotes every minute. I mean, it’s not fast enough for speculators/gamblers/day traders ;-). For most people though, the refresh will not be an issue as long as you make sure you understand the limits of ePaper.I like having red in the mix as well, because it makes it easier to highlight certain character updates. For example, I have mine setup to outline the stock ticker in a red box when it has gone up or down by 1% or or more since the last update.Overall, I’m really happy with the quality of this display. Also, it is exceeding thin. I’m going to try and figure out if I can extend the cable and house the control board in a 3d printed enclosure.
