Finally ditched the walled garden
After years of Sonos making me feel like an idiot every time I tried to queue a song at a friend’s house, I rebuilt my entire home audio setup around WiiM. I’m running a WiiM Ultra into a Denon AVR, which gave me actual control over my system: I can stream my turntable anywhere, use Tidal and Qobuz without compromise, and most importantly, never think about HEOS again.I bought this speaker as a kitchen satellite so I wouldn’t have to crank the living room system just to hear music over the sound of chopping vegetables. It’s shockingly good. Within the limits of physics and a 4-inch driver, it has real detail, balanced mids, and more authority than it has any right to at this size. It’s also surprisingly heavy (feels like actual build quality, not the hollow plastic nonsense you get from lifestyle brands).Multi-room streaming has been flawless. Stays perfectly synced with my main speakers, which is not something I take for granted anymore. I’m already planning a second one for another room.I’ll admit I was skeptical about the little screen on the front. Seemed like a gimmick that added cost for no real benefit, and I almost waited for a rumored version without it. Turns out I was wrong. The album art display is actually useful. When I’m cooking and hear something I like, I can glance over and know exactly what’s playing without pulling out my phone. You can also switch to a text only display if you prefer.On price: I was hoping to land closer to $250, but at $300 it still feels like the value is there if you can stretch a bit. The build quality and sound justify the premium. That said, if you’re only thinking about one speaker for your kitchen and you’re already deep into another ecosystem, it probably makes sense to stick with what you have. But if you’re open to a change or looking for a platform to build around long term, WiiM is worth serious consideration. The architecture is completely open, the components are legitimately audiophile grade, and you’re not locked into a walled garden that treats you like a revenue stream instead of a customer.If you’re thinking about the white version, be warned: it shows grime immediately. Not great if you cook with your hands or have kids. I wish they offered a gray option (would be perfect for a modern, light toned room without the constant fingerprint anxiety).Overall, one of the few audio purchases lately that actually lived up to expectations. Solid gear, no regrets.

Lack of Apple Music and Airplay is a deal breaker
I have a few WiiM devices and really like them, however the lack of Apple Music and Airplay support is a deal breaker. You can’t run feed music to this with Airplay or use Apple Music without having to buy another WiiM Mini to act as a source. That pretty much defeats the purpose of a small all in one speaker like this. WiiM needs to bring AirPlay and Apple Music support to their Ultra products and these speakers.

I got this unit as a nice bedside table clock and speaker. I already had the WiiM app installed on my phone, as I already have another of their products (their Amp Pro, which is sitting under my TV as a streaming box and HDMI ARC -> large speakers unit). The App is cool as I can now drive both products via it. I have to be honest and say though that as a bedside clock it’s really great. The screen is not huge but that is fine where you don’t want loads of light spilling out when you’re trying to sleep. In the lowest brightness mode I find it not distracting and bright enough to see, even in daylight.The sound quality is very good. Perhaps more bassy than you might expect. The support for streaming platforms is amazing and I was able to pair both Tidal and Spotify with no hassles whatsoever.All in all, a very nice unit. Perhaps towards the upper end of pricing compared to other options but if you want good audio and a nice screen in one high quality package, this is probably fair at its price point.

Je viens de recevoir et d’installer le wiim sound, c’est mon deuxième produit de la marque. Emballage simple mais classe, et la voice remote 2 est livrée avec, c’est super. L’enceinte pèse un certain poids, attention en la manipulant. Très bien emballée et protégée. Il manque juste un cable ethernet qui n’est pas fourni, mais elle fonctionne très bien en wifi, puisqu’elle est pensée pour être déplacée de temps en temps. L’installation se fait très rapidement, si vous avez déjà l’application. De ce coté, c’est parfait, l’appli est vraiment très claire, bien pensée, et tout est facilement accessible. L’enceinte reconnait votre serveur domestique si vous en avez un, et vos abonnements qobuz ou autre. La télécommande est très classe, en aluminium. Elle fonctionne en bluetooth, pas de problème de distance ou d’angle de visée. L’enceinte en elle-même se fait vite oublier. L’ecran est personnalisable (horloge, service ou album, papier peint perso…) et désactivable via l’appli, dans les paramètres . Il est tactile, mais on oublie vite de s’en servir car c’est bien moins pratique et lisible que le tel ou la tablette. Le son est très bon, et le volume surprend par son ampleur, sa tenue. On appuie vite sur le bouton -moins- de la télécommande, pour ne pas déranger trop les voisins. Beaucoup de basses, si l’on cherche une écoute HIFI, c’est peut-être un frein, mais ce n’est pas le but de cette enceinte connectée qui ne peut pas remplacer une installation stereo, ça n’est pas sa fonction. En tant que système d’appoint, elle est parfaite pour sonoriser vos sources, TV, NAS, CD, et services de streaming. Chaleureusement recommandé +++++

　Sonos One (gen1) から移行すべく購入。まず設置してみて大きく違うのがサイズ。縦横高さとも一回り大きく、結構存在感があるため、色はちゃんと選んだ方が良い。Wiim Sound: 193 x 146 x 146mm, 2.5kgSonos One(Gen1): 161 x 120 x 120, 1.9kg■音質　Wiim Soundは出力100Wとなっているのでかなり大きな音が鳴ると思いきや、アンプの増幅率は意外と控えめ。静かめの音源だと音量80/100くらいで再生したいときも多く、アンプ+パッシブスピーカーのように考えるとちょっと使い勝手が異なる。　音質はOneと比較して、音圧のあるストレートな音で低音も締まっている。Oneも良い音で、一聴すると立体感がある鳴り方をするが、Soundと比べると余分な残響のついたように聞こえてしまう。反射音など利用するわけではなく真面目に音質を追求している印象を受ける。ニュースなどの人の声もよりはっきり聞こえるようになった。参考までに、Sonos One と wiim sound の空気録音動画をupした。実際にこの通り聞こえる訳ではないので、あくまでざっくりとした比較としてどうぞ。　低音について、スペック上は35Hzまでだが、39Hzくらいになるとかなり減衰する。(例えば、Daft PunkのDoin’ It Rightの低音進行の三音目D#1は、殆ど聞こえない)。とはいえ、これは2～3Wayのブックシェルフスピーカーでもそんなに簡単に出る領域ではないので、通常は問題にならないはず。これ以下はサブウーファーが必要だ。■補正機能　SonosのTrue Play相当?のRoom Fitは、低音から高音までスイープされ、それを元にEQを設定している様子。測定結果と補正効果がグラフで見れるのはとても良い。私の測定(iPad)では、100Hzと300Hz付近にこぶがあったので、それを補正(-2dBくらい)するようにPEQが自動設定された。測定結果だと10kHz～ や ～50Hzがターゲットと乖離していたが、ここら辺はEQ設定には反映されなかった。iPadと表示されていたので、機種を認識してマイク特性を考慮してくれている…？　β機能として、スピーカからホワイトノイズ(大音量！)を出しつつ、Sonosのように部屋を移動しながら補正するモードもあったので試してみたが、こちらは何が調整されているのかは不明。音の補正機能は今後テコ入れがありそうだ。■操作系　丸形のディスプレイはサイズは小さめだが、画素数も十分多く高画質。　タッチディスプレイになっていて、スワイプ操作など可能。再生情報始め、Queueの表示、曲の選択や設定も行うことができかなり多機能。小さいながらも感度がよく、実用的(ディスプレイの下の端でも横スワイプできる！)。輝度も自動調整可能だったり、良く作りこまれている。　天面には、5ボタン(音量上下+再生/一時停止+左+右)あり操作が容易。普段は何もないように見えるが、手を近づけるとボタン箇所が光るギミックあり。Sonosでは3ボタン(音量上下+再生/一時停止)だったので、wiimの方が前の曲/次の曲がワンクリックで操作でき便利。因みに、手数は増えるがディスプレイのタッチ操作でも同様のことが行える。あと、リモコンはやっぱり手元にあると便利。このリモコンは音声認識でも意外な実力を発揮するのだがそれは後述。■アプリ　大きく異なるという訳ではないが、Wiimの方が使いやすい。Sonosは自分のサービスが中心に設計されていて、ストリーミングサービス側の再生履歴やお気に入りなどは余り考慮してくれないが、WiimはQobuzの保存アルバム一覧がトップ出てきたりとストリーミングサービス側での活動を汲んでくれるのが良い。設定も細かく指定でき好感触。アルバム毎にプリセット(イコライザや音量設定)を設定する機能もあり、これまた良く出来ている。■ストリーミングサービス　Qobuz日本は問題なく再生できており、Amazon Musicも Ultra HDで再生可能。Roon Readyなのも嬉しいポイント。自前のRoon Serverから認識され、問題なくハイレゾ再生出来ている。私の環境ではSonosはQobuz日本リージョンでは満足に再生出来なかったり、Roonからの再生に若干問題を抱えていたりしたので、QobuzとRoonが完全に使えるのは大きい。(Roon Readyはデフォルトでは無効になっていて、設定から有効にしないといけない。何かの利権の問題だろうか。)■Alexa連携　Sonos Oneと大きく違うのは、Sonos One が マイク付きでEchoの代用(ささやきなど一部機能は本家のEchoしか使えない)になるのに対して、Wiimはマイクは持たずハンズフリーで使う場合はEchoと連携して使う必要がある点だ。これは始め不便だと思っていたのだが、リモコンでAlexaを呼び出すのは結構便利ということに気づいた。リモコンに紐づいたデバイスを確実に呼び出せるし、周りがうるさかったりデバイスから離れていても正しく音声認識してくれる。ウチの環境では、Sonos Arcのマイク性能が良すぎて、別の部屋にいるにも関わらずArcが回答してくれる、なんてことも結構あるので、ここら辺のストレスが解消されたのだ。　因みに、AlexaからSoundを呼び出したとき、折角高音質なのでEchoの音声は全てWiimで再生したいところだが、Echo Showのような画面付きのEchoデバイスの場合、優先スピーカを指定できない。このため、画面と連動するような機能を使うときはEcho Showから音声が流れてしまう点には注意が必要。また、現状Qobuzもデフォルトで再生できず、Amazon Musicが優先されてしまう。■総括Sonos Oneの倍くらいの価格だが、アップグレードする価値はあったと感じる。(Sonosで機能面の不便を感じていたので猶更) 音質もそうだが、使い勝手の面での改善が大きかった。Sonosと比べてコストパフォーマンスが良いという言われ方を見るが、SoundについてはSonos Era 100 が二つ或いはEra300が買えてしまうので、どうするか迷うところではある。Era100とは一見似ているようで製品の方向性は結構異なるので、しっかり検討した上で選びたい。- Roonとの完全な連携- Qobuzなどのハイレゾ対応- ピュアオーディオ的な鳴り方- リモコンで操作(SonosもIkeaの製品など利用する方法はあるが、使い勝手は余り良くない)- ディスプレイが欲しい- 社外スピーカーとの連携-> Wiim Sound- AirPlay- Echoの代替- サラウンド感などホームシアター的な鳴り方- サウンドバーと連携してサラウンド環境構築- 価格重視(スピーカ単体での比較)-> Sonos Era100 / One
