Best Sharperner I’ve Ever Owned (portable, effective, affordable)
I’ve spent years purchasing knife sharpening tools for two reasons. First, I wanted a tool that made it easy to sharpen my knives to a razor edge. Second, I wanted something portable. I have found items that sharpened well, but they were often large or complicated. I’ve found tools that were portable, but they didn’t always make it easy or they didn’t sharpen my knives effectively. However, this Work Sharp sharpener is amazing! It’s small and I’ve used it to sharpen seven different knives to a razor edge. Additionally, this tool has a broadhead wrench under the sharpening plates to make it easier when working with arrows. The inclusion of the leather strop makes a massive difference in honing the blade, too. It’s affordable compared to the utility, making it a great value. It’s easy to hold without being too large. I’ve used “V” sharpeners, rollers, diamond plates, dry stones, wet stones, electric sharpeners, and all manner of fancy gadgets, but THIS sharpener is my all-time favorite for quality, value, portability, and results!

A dandy little sharpener
My second one since I wore out the first iteration years ago. Very happy when I realized that Amazon has them for sale. What makes it special? It’s the multi tool of hand held sharpeners. For campers and hunters but it also works for the pocket knife in your glove box or small knives in your home.Makes a dull knife sharp. Other features are; rotating ceramic sharpening bars, honing leather and the 20 degree guides. You hold in your hand so be cautious using it. I never had any problems with my older one. Not cheap but a great tool for the money. Works on a variety and shapes blades.Makes a great gift, but I’m keeping mine.

Best all around sharpener
I have bought probably over 5 of these at this point and they all rock. I am constantly giving these out as gifts and I keep on in my truck and in my hunting packs. They make sharpening a breeze and get your blades extremely sharp. Only downside is it is almost impossible to sharpen larger blades. It is perfect for pocket knives and small hunting knives though.

Incredible system
Convenience, portability, versatility, effectiveness, it is an incredible all in one sharpening system. I am fairly new to sharpening, but this makes it easy. Contained in this ingenious 7×1.5” device is a coarse plate, fine plate, strop, ceramic honing rod, a smaller ceramic rod for serrations, fish hook groove, and an integrated wrench for disassembling your arrowheads. They thought of everything. If you lift up one of the plates there is a small storage compartment where you can keep a ferro rod, oil, green compound, small cloth, whatever you want. I tried it out on a cheap dullish Balisong that I’ve had forever. It’s never been this sharp. Just remember, if you’re still not getting the edge you want, just keep at it. After 50 strokes on each side of the blade with the fine plate, honing rod and strop, the blade was quite sharp, but still not razor sharp. So another 50 strokes on each side with the rod and the strop and it was shaving with ease. I’ve discovered that real sharpening is almost therapeutic, and incredibly satisfying to get that keen edge on a blade. I have a whole pile of knives ready to go, and hairless patches on my arms and legs. It would be nice if there was something more to hold onto while sharpening, perhaps a handle that folded over and enclosed it like a balisong or telescoped out of it, but I would not want to sacrifice its compact size. Still a 5 star product that works like a charm.UPDATE 11/20/24: So this has been my primary sharpening system for 10 months now and I still love it. I have not yet spent hundred of dollars on a set of water stones or a premium bench top sharpener, and haven’t felt the need to. I recently purchased the Sharpal Transforod to see how it compared. The Sharpal has the advantage of using better quality abrasives and being able to adjust the angle guides with the twist of a knob, but it has two fatal flaws IMO. One is the cylinder interfering with my ability to reach the entire cutting edge of most of my blades. The other is the inability to sharpen both sides of the blade without turning the sharpener around, switching hands, or switching to the under side of the sharpener where I cannot see what I’m doing. For these reasons the Worksharp is still my preferred system. Sharpening on it is faster, easier and more accurate. I am hoping, however, that they release an upgraded version (let’s call it the Ultimate Guided Field Sharpener) in the near future with adjustable or removable angle guides. 20 degrees is a great all around sharpening angle, plenty sharp to shave hair, but I find myself wanting to go shallower or steeper for some knives. Also, not all knives come from the factory sharpened at 20 degrees, and sharpening them on this device necessitates reprofiling them. Worksharp’s Benchstone has removable angle guides that can be switched out for 15,17 and 25 degrees and it would be great if the Guided Field Sharpener had the same capability. Oh yeah, and some kind of handle would be nice too.

Work sharp, look sharp, be sharp!
I have been getting into blade maintenance over the last year and have seen many video reviews on WorkSharp’s products. When I happened across this, I knew it was a no-brainer. Going into the wilderness each summer for weeks at a time meant I would dull some blades, and we know that is a sin. This is very easy to use and understand how to use. It even comes with some Easter Eggs that it doesn’t quite tell you about initially. It has two different grits to use, one very abrasive for reprofiling an edge, and one moderate grit for maintaining an edge. Along with that, it has three different ways to use the ceramic: a coarse ceramic, a fish hook sharpener (I would love to know who is able to keep a hook long enough to need sharpened!) and a smooth ceramic. Finally, it has a leather strop that already has compound applied. It is essentially an all-in-one made easy. It is very effective and using this, you can consistently have sharp knives whenever you need, wherever you need.Pros: Different grits, multiple ceramic types, leather strop, compact in size, guide ramps for 20 degree angles to maintain an accurate edge every time, swappable diamond grit plates (Found this out when I dropped it! Also found the included instructions in the storage compartment)Cons: Only have 20 degree guides for beginners, grits are very coarse and medium coarse only, leather strop is a bit skinnyOverall, I would recommend this to anyone starting out in the sharpening game, or a seasoned veteran. Mine has convinced others to get it simply by using it once because of how good and easy it is to use. 4/5 stars

Coming from using basic unguided diamond plates for decades, I was recommended to use this as it teaches you correct blade angles. Not only does it do that: you get great results very quickly with little fuss.Simple and easy to use and very well designed.Considerably safer than using something like an ezylap.Only 2 things that are not ideal:1. Because of the body of a multitool being quite bulky, you will struggle to use the guided angle for the entire blade (small ~5mm section is difficult to reach on one side of the knife.2. Due to the leverage, it becomes a touch unstable when working a blade towards yourself. This however is easy to remedy by resting the mar end on something to stabilise it. Just worth noting for a field sharpener… I would almost suggest if you aren’t planning on using this in the field to get the next model up which is suited to working on a bench.Otherwise super impressed and absolutely blown away by the results to effort ratio.

I have always had a problem trying to sharpen my knives due to Arthritic hands so when I first heard about Work Sharp I went onto their website to check out a video on knife sharpening and after watching I bought this Work Sharp Guided Field Knife Sharpener pocket model. And wow I have good sharp knifes fit for their job. My main knife is KA-BAR BK16, and now it works, I also have Victorinex Hunter folder and that is now sharp. So if you intend buying first check the website WORK SHARP and take your time to check the relevant videos before you buy. GOOD Quality ALL ROUND. Finally I noticed about reversing the diamond plates when not in use to protect them.
